How do you display your work?

I mean at the house. Do you use it for decoration around the house?
On the wall or in a cabinet?
I would like something that I could hang on the wall myself.
Any pics of your setups?

Thanks

Patrice

I only have two knives of mine at the house. One is a wharncliff pairing in a butcher block and the other is my first blade that I use for hunting, and that stays in my pack. A friend that is a collector keeps his in glass cabinets, one is lit from above and very fancy.

my grandfather has a few small wood/glass display cases for folders that hang on the wall, there held in with invisible tie downs.

but most of his collection remain in the orig boxes in storage cases, there opened oiled and put back into the box

Thanks Mike.

So nobody hangs their knives on the walls?

I have my first homemade knife in a shadow box that I picked up at a local craft store. Just that one though.

Having never been to a knife show I frequently wonder how folks display their knives in the context. Seems like most makers just lay them down on a open table?

I have white cabinets in the computer room. They have the shelves filled with knives and some supplies.
My good friend uses one of those nice oak machinist chests with about 20 drawers to store and display his collection of hundreds of knives.

I have a real problem/worry about very sharp thing just hung on walls with no case around them. Occasionally I see someone who has a large collection of swords, all on pegs in the wall. This looks good in a museum, or on a Kill Bill movie, but is an invitation for disaster in the real world.

I hope I never have to display any of mine. I prefer to collect good customers :)

I do have a few knives in the kitchen though.

I think the best display is hanging from someone's belt/bibs.

EDIT in the world I live in and frequent , those are the 2 most commmon types of apparrel, other than manly footwear(boots):D

Walls are for hangin' dead critters! Lol

That's right - and knife photos........:D:thumbup:

I had these done by Wallgreens photo on line - $30.00 each.
Than my brother framed them for me.

The photo idea is a good one.

I don't see how it can be dangerous Stacy as long as it is fairly secured and out of the way.

I understand that most knives we make don't want to stay with us but a few of the uglier one do. ;)

The second knife show I attended I brought some burl caps to show people what burl looked like before it was cut up into blocks. It was my intention to use the pieces as part of my table display. Before I had everything set up several knife makers asked to purchase some of the pieces. They used them as display pieces on their tables setting the knives on top of the burl pieces. Now when I go to the shows I bring burl caps and slabs that makers can use for their displays. Stuff like this works good for tabletop or shelf displays. You could also use driftwood pieces. It's not hard to find a piece that will lift the handle at one end and a small groove can hold the blade on edge.

I have a wooden tooling chest that I picked up at Lowes. It's one of the multidrawer cabinets with small and wide drawers that are felt lined, and it has a large top storage also lined I use for sheath storage.

I have my collection stored there, along with the few handmades I've kept for myself (almost entirely early blades). I don't otherwise have any public displays. My wife is left to the decorration of our home, and she does a great job. The house feels home-ie, however, she doesn't appreciate mechanical things as much as I do. :)
