How Do You Feed Your Addiction?

Ever get that gnawing feeling in the pit of your stomach? That hunger that can only be stopped by the delivery of a small brown box handed to you by a smiling UPS person? I do. Seems I have reached the point where if I don't have something sharp and pointy coming my way every few weeks or so, I get antsy.
As I commented in the Spyderco forum, I ordered a couple of Byrd knives, and for under $40 I had two knives at my doorstep in no time. Sure, I also want to have more knives that cross the $100, but sometimes you need something now.....:)

So, just wondering--besides Byrd knives (which I believe are good quality/cheap price), how else do you guys feed your addiction for knife stuff?
(Not that I need any other ideas to spend more money:o)

Just ordered myself a BM Benchmite to attach to one of my key chains, and on a separate note, had to ambush a UPS dude to get it. (Tracking number said it was supposed to be delivered yesterday, didn't see it all day, then when I was leaving the office a UPS truck pulled up to the curb, so I jogged over and yelled "Hey! You have a package for Jake?!" Scared the poor guy half to death.)

Yep,SAK's and Multitools are a good fix.Though, books about knives, movies featuring knives,Video games featuring knives are not. They just encourage the "NEED".(Damn you Silent Hill:Homecoming making me want an M-10 bayonet)

I've started ordering knife blank's and making the handles and sheaths myself.
Also the inexpensive lines help a lot, In the past year I've bought a Tenacious, a crossbill, a RAT1 and a 1095 Becker Necker. I'm really happy with them but I think it's time for a Expensive Benchmade.

Usually SAK's----problem is, I'm getting a big collection of those now.

Been spending a lot on mags and ammo lately----but have that little itch for another knife sneeking up on me the last few days.

Set a budget per month, really research what you want, if it is more than your budget, wait the appropriate amount of months.

I know, doesn't really feed the addiction, does it? Might just keep it in check though ;)

I personally buy inexpensive but good knives as gifts for others in the mean time. Even plan what to give next time, to help someone else get the addiction and keep myself from spending a lot on myself in exchange of spending a little on others.

I recommend utilizing the "trading" forum here... Trade UP for the cost of a SAK... or trade even and cost you only the shipping.. I try to only buy/trade USA made, except Victorinox, and this is a cheap way to accomplish it. I will say, though, I am not interested in the least to have any kind of collection of knives.. I appreciate them as tools, and I like the gadgets.

When I feel like I need a new knife but don't have the $, I sharpen up the knives I have. sometimes it satisfies the crave :)

cant really feed it that much, I just watch youtube videos and constantly plan my next purchase.
Depending on my mood and how much money i get for christmas my next purchase will be either.
CRK small sebbie (not likely)
BM 42
Kershaw CB Junkyard dog II
cheaper Great eastern cutlery model

I use kershaws, they are nice well built and decently priced. All variations of the leek can be fun to collect. I also like spydies and byrds.

Ahhh I'm not alone, I get a good feeling as soon as I order something, but a couple of days after it arrives later I get a empty feeling again. It's not just w/ knives either......lol

It's probably not the knives themselves. Maybe we just all have addictive personalities.

It's definetly from the same make up as an addiction though.

You constantly look for the next 'hit', you escalate your spending exponentially, and each time a new knife arrives, the feeling you seek isn't what you get, hence you 'chase the dragon'.

Know that one:D Not that long ago I bought a few Spydies (I love my Spydies) - got a Sage, Atlantic Salt/SE, Police 3/SE and figured that would keep me for a while. Wasn't two weeks later I bought a Black Quince Kopa and because I wanted something "different", got an SOG Spec Elite I. On the SOG web page, I noticed they had a Fusion series blade I thought might be fun - the Fusion 2x4 Contractor folder - for using as a beater. Dropped into a knife shop during my travels, found it, somehow ended up with a BM 930 Kulgera:D I should be good for a couple of weeks......... really....... though, after playing with my SOG, the Pentagon Elite is starting to whisper at me.......

I have to either sell or trade knives that I have to get different knives because I don't have a monthly knife budget. I have a yearly knife budget. I can pretty much buy about 3 knives a year. If I want more than that I have to trade or sell what I already have.

And there is no "THE Knife". The Paramilitary is "THE Knife" for me....but I still want different ones. I also don't want to "collect". I just like having between 5 or 10 at a time as cool tools.

So I guess to feed the addiction I have to sell or trade.

Heck, I've done about everything mentioned here. Bought SAK's or Smith & Wesson slipjoints to give to kids in the family at Christmas; bought roughed up "users" I got cheap then give away; bought blanks and finished them out myself; and it's never enough. Some weeks I'm play a game with myself that I'm only going to spend, say $35.00 on a knife that week, and search for the best "deal" on a new or used knife for that price. Sometimes I find something that just catches me, and I spend more than I should. Glad to know I'm not alone.
