How do you feel about Emerson knives?

I haven't seen or held one in person, but I've yet to see a picture or
video of one that had me wanting to buy it from it's overall appearance.[/QUOTE

And you won't. You are exactly like I was. If BFC has taught me only one thing - it is that you can't make your decisions and have them predicated on "opinions" of others. And that is easy to do in here.

In regard to Emerson Knives. You have to ask yourself how is it that a knife that basically looks as simple as his designs are, with the materials that he uses and have the HUGE following that EKI has....how is it possible? It's not just stupid people buying into a marketing gimmick, military stories etc. will only last for so long - - sooner or later truth rears its ugly head. Without going off track somewhat, another company I put in the same vein but they haven't been around as long as EKI is RYP over at DPx Gear, damn fine products that you can absolutely beat the piss out of and it likes it.

Bottom line with both of those companies IMO....purchase the design that passes your eyeball test, if you happen to get a piece that "is off" - send it back till you get one that IS right, they want you to be happy with their product. And once you get one that IS right...then you will understand the so called hype. Good Luck. Just get one!

Not before this arrived. I am glad I got it. It is a very solid knife. For a slim blade, it isn't really small. Looking down on the open blade, it is the same size as my Commander, including the same strong tip. For two knives that seem so different, the blades seem as strong, and are exactly as long.

I'm hoping to get to see a bunch at a gathering of knife nuts in about 10 days.
I still have plenty of room in my Pelican 1500 if I like what I see.

My next one is a toss up between the Patriot, Journeyman, and the 13. Either way, I need to save a few more bucks before pulling the trigger. What I do not like though are the new standoffs. First time I saw them I thought, "Who in the world pimped out a perfectly functional knife?" I like the old backspacers much more. I wonder if EKI would install one after the fact...

Glad to see someone else shares my sentiments about the standoffs. And the obvious answer is the 13.

I'll back ibute on this one. That big bowie looks awesome! And I agree that backspacers are the way to go with Emersons.

I was curious about what the view of Emerson knives is here at bladeforums.

Do you guys like the knives they produce? Materials they use? Durability?

Let me know what you think because I am considering picking up a new Emerson, but I'd like to get your input before I pull the trigger.

I rarely talk of EKI these days but they do support the USA. Ernie is mostly on the same page with me politically based on his posts I've read so I support that even if I do feel he somewhat pushes the limits with his customers sending out knives unfinished the way they do at his manufacture plant. Its ridiculous to ask that much for unfinished products in my opinion but they do offer a great platform to build up from and they are great designs. Ernies designs and handles are top shelf! I love the CQC14 handle best personally. I've had better luck with used purchases of Emersons and been much happier with them and trusted them more than the new. The new Emersons of every model I've ever bought or owned have needed break in for the lock and action and I just get tired of breaking in new and expensive knives. The gritty washers, the iffy lock, the whole process of doing that especially after having to once again justfy the cost of the knife and my jeans and how they tear the crap out of pants and having to explain to my wife once more why I'm carrying a Waved folder ruining 40 and 50 buck pants in short order! Don't believe? Get a wife and you'll see. :-) Seriously tho, the used broke in ones I do own like my current A-100 are good users I find easy to beat up because I could care! You know, something to be said for a knife you don't baby or even care to loan out.

Good deal. Mental note taken.

Neat, innovative design, but too expensive (OK, I do pack and use my Sebbie...:o). Maybe if they were more readily available in Canada I'd consider one.

Expense is a function of source. I buy my gear from the Exchange here whenever I can. I waited longer than I wanted to for the Gentleman Jim, but there are advantages to that. Price is definitely one.

The other is, I don't get lemons. The original owner takes care of that, AND smooths out the action and cleans up the edge -- I mean, I buy from good people.

Read post # 70 by STR. He knows. Off anyone's assembly line can be OK. But buying used means buying broken in.
