How do you feel about lanyards?

I posed a very similar question a week or so ago in the CRK subforum, largely because I was specifically trying to decide what to do on my sebenza, and I was pretty shocked with the even split among everyone. Do yall keep lanyards (or fobs whichever you prefer to call them, in this case I'm not picky) on your knives? Only specific ones (and if so what makes you pick to keep one on that knife)? Any method of attachment you prefer or any special features (beads, etc)? I keep going back and forth. I was not a fan of the black coil on my sebenza- it seemed to look a bit out of place, fell awkwardly, and overall wasn't that appealing. On the flip side, I actually used it more than I thought I would, and I think with maybe the right lanyard, I'd actually enjoy it. I have a few other thoughts/concerns/questions that I'll probably hop back in with, but really I'm just curious to see what yall think about them in general!

They just take up excess space to me and most of my knives don't have a place to put a lanyard, outside maybe the pocket clip.

Hate them. I don't like stuff hanging off my gear and I also don't like reaching for something and then having to fiddle with a lanyard to get it out of the way of my grip. If I were on a boat, sure. Otherwise nothing I own has a lanyard on it.

I've got a short lanyard with just a brass nut on it on my edc. I find it useful for retrieving my knife when it's in a pocket full of clutter. it also offers a little extra grip.

To each his own. try one out, no point in asking other's opinions on this one.

I don't use lanyards. The only time I could see myself using one is if it was the best means to attach a knife someplace. However, right now I mostly carry knives in my pocket and clip it in. I think if I were climbing or something like that I might consider a lanyard to put one around my neck or wrist.

I am pro lanyard for sure. It just makes it easier for me to access my knife. Don't have one every knife, but most of the ones I carry regularly have them in one form or another.

To me it depends on the knifes clip if it rides really deep I keep a lanyard so I have something to grab onto, with knives like my native frn that stick out of the pocket about 1/4" I don't use a lanyard......

I love em'. Not on everything, but they sure are handy on some of my one-handed folders.
Easier to retrieve and hold. Plus...it makes me SEXXAY!
I like to switch it up with different colors of paracord, different knots, and different beads.
Gives the knife some more character.
Lanyards are also useful on fixed blades for secure chopping.

Nothing wrong with a nice fob and metal bead on a folder. Just like a gold nugget bracelet or pinkie ring, it just looks good. :)

I'm sort of torn. I found the one I had to be useful in knife retrieval (I use the pocket clip and the sebenza I'm EDCing sits nicely in the pocket either way with pretty high ease of retrieval), but it was unattractive, too rigid for my taste, and fell forward, which prevented it from touching the blade but also blocked my pocket. Overall the lanyard is a super minor thing, but as I'm both thrilled with the knife and too poor after buying it to really get too into any other knives at the moment that it has sort of become a point of fixation for me. I've seen a couple of possible alternative ties that I might try out and see what I think since paracord is rather cheap. I'm sort of torn also in the aesthetics of having a simple lanyard. My knife will always be visibly clipped to my front left pocket, even in dress attire, and fortunately that is pretty sociably acceptable where I live. I can't really decide if having a simple and or nice lanyard actually makes it look dressier and more tool functionable or just makes it more obvious. Ultimately, I think worrying and fixating on such a small thing just means I'm very satisfied with my purchase and my OCD needs something to fixate on, but I've definitely wasted quite a lot of time the last couple of days thinking about it.

Its a must have...easy to pull out from pocket. When sometimes you forget if blade is there, you can check easy by a simple touch...its easier to retrieve...Buy lanyard must be tie securely to the back side, so it won't swing over to the front & interrupt the blade from deploying or disengaging...

My EDC Sebenza has none; I took it off. I do have one other Sebbie that has one and I carry that knife sometimes, but I find that I worry more about losing a knife with a lanyard, even though it may be useful in getting the knife from my pocket.

I find that it adds to the overall look of the knife and say you have a starlinger bead on there lots of character too
Other than that it serves the purpose to pull your knife out of the pocket and to find your knife if you lose it a little easier

I don't quite understand how a lanyard makes a knife faster to retrieve. I mean its easy to remove from the pocket but then you are holding the lanyard and not the knife. You have to either swing it up and catch it to deploy or use two hands (defeating the purpose of 1H openers). Can anyone enlighten me to how y'all use lanyards?

I don't get it either. How does it make it easier to retrieve from your pocket then the body of the knife itself? Do you have the lanyard dangling outside of the pocket?

Some knives sit so low they are hard to grab out of your pocket...
yes you let the lanyard outside your pocket
Retrieval can also be if you drop your knife out in the woods and can't find it a bright paracord can make it easier to find

I always had mine hanging outside my pocket and the knife clipped to the pocket. It didn't make a huge difference, but especially when wearing gloves and slimmer jeans (like 501's) it took a little extra effort and focus to get the knife out. It was certainly do able, but just not quite as easy. Retrieving with the lanyard required a little readjustment of the knife, but really not much more than usual. I guess for me it didn't really speed up retrieval (I don't use my knife for self defense or anything that a super speed retrieval and deployment would make that much difference on), but it made it a little easier to do.
