How do you feel when you get a new knife?

It makes me question my sanity. No one in their right mind that has the ability to reason with logic needs or can use the amount of knives I have.
But yet, here I am getting all excited when a new knife shows up. Some I'll use, some I won't. I guess it's better than some alternative vices that people spend money on.

Any more I just feel stress. Even when it comes to knives that get rave reviews and are supposed to be perfect I've been getting bent blades, horrible lockups, and jacked up pivots. I've had to mail more knives in for warranty work in the past year than ever in my life.

Either manufacturers are getting sloppy or I'm cursed or something. I'm done buying new knives for a while, I think.

Hate to say this....
There are some knives where the excitement is there a moment, and then it goes away!!! Maybe the purple handled peanut will make the new knife feeling last longer!!! I like traditional knives.

That was my exact experience with Dutch Blade Works - Xerxes knife. I was so excited could not even wait till it got home, saw Nick Shabazz review and thought that was et! Loved the knife when I saw on Nick's channel and I made a decision to buy it.

Boy I was wrong. Minute I opened it and flipped it open close the excitement went from 100 to minus 100. Worst spent $400...

Closely similar experience with Large Sebenza. Yes it's a fine knife and I can see all the popularity and love for it. After carrying it a day and opening it many times, I though it's was an OK knife, boring but OK at best.

But let me tell you about my Medford Praetorian T or Hinderer XM 24 or Full Track or Arno Bernard knives, Fantoni HB01 (The Italian Terminator!)... Love from first sight right there! And still very happy and excited flipping those babies.

I enjoy getting a new knife even though I don't need any new knives. I am past the feeling of "Christmas" with knives or most things I buy these days. I wish it was different.

Added: I remember when I was younger and seeing my Dad wearing really crappy clothes, old and so forth... I always wanted him to get more in step with the world. But now, I am comfortable with my Carhartt tea shirts and jeans. I'm turning into my Dad.

I feel like having a drink of my scotch and just ponder on the knife for a while... then I remember, I don't drink anymore and look for another knife. I'm so addicted to knives, I love each one and cherish each one. Stay tough and cool.

The time leading up to ordering is spent with lots of internet searches, bladeforum searches, and e-drooling as I fight the urge to buy a new piece. Now that I've ruined myself on crks, Olamic, and hinderer, I can't be satisfied with more budget knives.

Finally, it is too much to bear, and I order the knife. Anxiety and excitement is now overdrive, with me checking tracking every hour, watching videos of my soon to be knife, etc. I buy the quickest and most expensive shipping option to shorten this phase of madness

NEW KNIFE DAY ARRIVES: A Wave of peace and calm rolls over me like a tsunami. I am very satisfied, and proclaim to myself "no more new ones for awhile". This deep calm lasts about a week before the urge slowly begins to build anew. Like a drumbeat in myy head from 1000 yards away, growing closer.....closer.....CLOSER........CLOSERRRR........

And the cycle begins anew

This video kind of demonstrates it (replace MURDER with NEW KNIFE of course)

Buying one more knife is not that exciting to me anymore. When I want something different in my pocket, I just look in that drawer full of knives and find one for whatever mood I'm in.

It is a hardwired evolutionary trait. Now that we're not trying to survive in caves it's worth remembering to practice moderation in these matters.

Disclaimer: Moderation should not be used when a Spyderco Reveal occurs. Please remember to buy all the knives!

New: Understanding Our Need for Novelty and Change

by Winifred Gallagher

Our unique human brains are biologically primed to engage with and even generate novelty. This “neophilia” has enabled us to thrive in a world of cataclysmic change

I am either underwhelmed and shortly put it up for resale or reasonably thrilled and put whatever it was meant to replace up for sale. Mostly the first scenario. And I usually do a lot of research first before buying anything

This thread really needs more girls in cutoffs on tractors...
i like your opinion

yep, I don't think any of us need more stress these days! I tend to stay with the upper end production knifes these days made in USA. not over there/over seas, nothing els will do for me.
