I'm looking for some advise here.
I have a nice skinner that I forged for a friend and have put Cocobolo scales on it. I notice that several people recomend a Wax finish or Shellac. I want it to end up with a smooth satin finish, Not glossy or looking like it is coated with plastic. Tips?:)

Friend just gave me an amazing finish recipe. Works really well on hardwoods.

100% organic, creates an amazing finish not unlike what you would see on old gun stocks.

1 part Linseed Oil + 3 parts Tung Oil

Then take that and go 1:1 (or 50%/50%) with d-Limonene solvent

You can get all of this at http://treehouselab.com/

Use a rag to wipe it on, then wait a while and use a dry rag to wipe it off. Do this every day for a week. It's really great.

I just sand it to 600 grit and then hit it with the buffer, if you want a more satin finish just stop with the black compound. Thats all I do and I've never had any problems. Cocobolo is pretty oily by itself.

I agree with the no finish group. Cocobolo is an oily wood and won't take ( or hold) most finishes.

Sand it to as fine a grit as you wish and either steel wool it for satin, or buff it for gloss. I would buff it and then steel wool it to remove the gloss.
