How do you force a patina on stainless steel?

To Deadfall. Did you completely clean that blade before you tried to etch it ?

Also , if I'm wrong forgive me but I did not see anyone recommend nuetralizing that FC after etching.

My ethernet port on my lapto is broken, so you'll just have to use your imagination until I fix it :D

I washed it completely and wiped it down, and I neutralized it right after i was done and satisfied.

I'm just revisiting this thread and I'm wondering about Ferric Chloride and/or Sodium Bisulfite. Since I'm working with FeCL3 and/or NaHSO3 in powdered form, might anyone be able to suggest how I could work with it? What are the mixing ratios to make it into a liquid before applying it to the blade? Much thanks in advance.
