How do you get a Hamon in 1084?

O.K., so I have the 1084 and the refactory cement. How does one go about creating the beautiful Hamons I have seen here in the galleries? How long in the forge for heat treat?, How thick is the cement applied, and how far along the blade do you go? After sanding down to 1500 grit(?) do you etch? What do you etch with? Do you sand after etching? Alot of questions, I know, but I really want to try it.

this worked for me with the only exception being i have to wrap the knife in wire after i clay it or the furnace cement will pop off. Also make sure your using a fast quench (i use canola oil).

Thanks for the replies. The tutorial was pretty much what I was looking for. I think I may try my 1095.
