I want to make a lockback folder. How do you make nail dents?

For those who don't know, this is a nail dent:

I think he means a "nail-nick".
They are usually cut on a mill with a end mill ( at an angle) or a 45 degree cutter. They can be cut by hand with a flex shaft or a Dremel tool, but it takes a steady hand.

A large Dovetail cutter or a fly cutter with the correct geometry ground on the tool blank is how many makers do it.

Called a nail nick. I cut them with a fly cutter. Others cut them with an abrasive disc on a Dremel tool, or abrasive disc on a shaft in a drill press, or with a cup grinding wheel on a surface grinder, or a dovetail cutter in a mill, or a milling cutter with either head or table set on angle, or.....many ways to skin this cat....just depencds upon machinery you have or lack thereof.

Low tech way is to just stamp them in with an appropriately shaped chisel/punch. This is how many factories do it.

I use my surface grinder with a 5" stone cut at about 35 deg angle. You can do the same thing on a milling machine or even a drill press.
