How do you guys avoid this "problem"?

I'll agree with everyone about bending the clip. That is what I have always done.

I unscrew the clip and hold the "screw side" with a vice (pliers work as well), then pull up on the clip, adjusting how it sits at rest.

I like it so that the clip has about a hair of space away from the G-10. -Just enough room to be easy on the pants, with enough tension to hold the knife well.

The new 2011 G-10 is rough and the clips are really tight, so I consider this easy mod necessary.
 
Thanks for the suggestions on the thread. I love the material used, but have to be careful which pants I wear.
