How do you guys cut your steel?

I use a hack under the press when cutting hot, or a hot cutter and a plate on the anvil.

cold - import cheapy bandsaw, bimetal blades (bimetal is super important), or angle grinder.

The hack takes about 2 seconds to cut through a billet but it isn't a clean cut. I can go through a 3" thick by 3" wide bar of steel in less than 2 seconds, though. Then, you just gotta grind the lip off of the end (scarfed edge).

Lol I use a carpenters circular saw with a metal cutting fiber blade! They aren't the best but will cut even titanium with ease. I just grind to profile. Not recommended but it works.

I am getting a metal cutting bandsaw very soon!

I have also used a hacksaw or jewelers saw depending on what I am making.

I used to use a jigsaw on thin stuff but they really aren't the right tool for the job.

Dewalt portaband myself.
Rick may chime in, he uses his heat vision. :D

I've learn to use my rapist wit to talk the steel into profiling itself.

A friend of mine has a machine shop and a water jet. We're going to start experimenting with it...it is computer controlled design.

Shotgunner, I am glad I read your post about using a tile saw. I have a big commercial unit and hadn't even thought about using it. What type of diamond blade have you found works best?

I am new at this. I don't have a bandsaw or cutoff grinder.

Is it OK to use a cordless drill with a cutoff blade on it?
