How do you guys sharpen your bucks.

Scott, Is that four Norton stones in your photo ? I think you have enough to do what ever you'd need . DM

I use round ceramic croc stics which work perfectly as long as your not dealing with an abused or overly dull blade.

Sharpening is so subjective, you gotta do what works for you.

What works for me is the lansky clamp system using the 25 degree angle. Maintains a factory looking edge on both sides of the blade. Sometimes, depending on the blade and use, I will change angles.

First thing I have to do on a fresh factory blade, is get my own angle on it. After that first time, it gets easier.

Been using a lansky clamp system for better than 30 years and have sharpened 110's for buddies that couldn't sharpen them otherwise.

Everyone has their means and methods. That's my method and I'm sticking to it.

No rights, no wrongs, what ever stone, hone, or gadget you use successfully is obviously the right one for you. May have to evolve through a few before you find yours. But don't let anyone convince you that any one is better n the other.;)

Maybe different friends have enough different methods and systems, you can learn on, without spending a bundle.

I have a lansky sharpening system and have a few problems with it.

1) I can never really get a good edge on a knife using this, barly enough to push cut paper.

2) I can't sharpen for over 5 minutes before the clamp fails and the knife falls off.

 I wasn't happy.

Unlike whiz-bang sharpeners, bench stones allow the user to choose an edge
...never ceases to amaze me how folks try to re-invent the stone...I'll bet there's something "revolutionary" getting ready to make an appearance at the Shot Show

Zack, one trick I found with the Lansky that works for me is to put a piece of scotch tape on the blade before putting on the clamp. Keeps it from moving on the blade.

Zack , Go try the Lanksy again and then read over what Pack Rat said.
You will get it.

Run the flat screw down tight with a screw driver. Tighten the thumb screw with a pair of pliers. Should solve your problem. If you haven't stripped either of them..;)

Don't over work any one hone on the lansky. Get your initial edge with the coarse, and then work it with the medium and fine.

You could be over doing it.
