How do you IWB carry your EDC Busse?

I am grateful I scored a SAR 3, and I'm now thinking for the first time that I could carry IWB. In my state it is illegal to conceal carry a "bowie knife," a term which is not well defined under the law. But I'm thinking perhaps that a SAR 3 would fall outside the definition of a bowie knife (wheras my Tank Buster and BWM clearly would be considered bowie knives, not to mention a bit hard to hide in my pants). What sort of sheath do you use for this? I'm familiar with IWB carry for a pistol but I've never seen IWB for a knife. FWIW, my daily dress requires suits most days (jackets usually worn only getting to the office and leaving, so I'm basically walking around with slacks and a tucked in shirt.)

Most sheaths are drilled out to support teklocks. Where the teklok goes you can easily replace it with an IWB strap. I used to carry a Sarsquatch IWB and have carried an NMSFNO IWB comfortably.

I also carry a gun IWB so it can be uncomfortable having that much stuff shoved down your pants. When I receive the boss jack i'll be carrying it OWB weak side because of the gun right side, but I can conceal or open carry in my state.

Concealing a FB under a tucked in shirt is not as easy as concealing a folder, but it can be done: you just tuck your shirt in and leave a tiny little bit untucked over the knife and roll it so it looks tucked. If you do the roll all the way around, you can conceal the IWB loop too. It's easier if you're taller because of the length. If I'm in a dress shirt and slacks, I stick to folders myself.

I've been carrying my AD in this RainWalker rig for a while now.

The rig rides deep and is easily covered by a untucked shirt and just melts away. The sheath will deploy with the knife on occasion but if you're a little sweaty the leather holds in place real nice. Just be careful not to customize yourself sheathing the knife.

I wouldn't suggest this style for a tucked in shirt with slacks on though. You may want to consider a pocket sheath.

Good luck

Let me ask what will probably end up being a stupid question. What do you during the day that requires slacks, a nice tucked in shirt and a hidden 7" knife? As an architect I'm always wearing the corporate uniform and I gotta think it would just be plain uncomfortable even if I could or wanted to conceal a knife. I've never encountered anything during a typical day, that an Atwood keychain tool couldn't handle. Ironically though every Busse I own has been shipped to my office... ruck and all :D

adrock, that is a fair question. I'm a lawyer (ok, go ahead and hog pile me - my dirty secret is out). I probably do not need to edc a fixed blade, but my clients are spread out over various projects, and I often run to and fro for interviews, client meetings, etc. I edc a folder now, which I primarily use for opening boxes (I have to review a ton of documents, often shipped in boxes). I also clean my nails with my folder, but that's getting a bit personal I suppose. Although I have a CCW permit for a firearm (and I'm well trained, NRA instructor, etc), our building rules forbid us from carrying a gun, and although I could probably push that rule as I am self employed (a partner in my firm, 2d amendment trumps the lease agreement, etc.), I just don't want to push the rule. Could a wacko come into our building requiring self defense? Sure, it happened not long ago in Florida, in an engineering firm as I recall. The world is just going crazy. I try to balance healthy preparation with simply living life without being on the edge all the time. I probably will not edc a fixed blade, but I'd like to at least explore the option, particularly now that a SAR 3 is heading my way. Plus, I am a southern redneck country boy - I just love guns and knives and stuff, and I like to hang that stuff all over me to the extent I can, just, well, because.

Huh... wow... well I wasn't expecting the perfect answer... You button hooked me. :D From one New Jersey gun loving knife toting red neck, to another redneck; Carry on!

I love Jersey rednecks! (family is from Lakewood, and I still have relatives in Maplewood and Jersey City). I am not really from the south, but I got here as fast as I could.

On my EDC size I remove the attachment, loop or tekloc, and just tuck it in @ 4:00. I carry a SJ this way in an older Busse nylon sheath.

I also have these Leatherman IWBs, they're made as lefties, I wear them IWB on the right, but can be clipped inside a right side pocket or worn on the belt on the left.

I've cut the loops off a couple of pouch sheaths, and use them the same way, just tucked in on the right. I have one for a MS and one for a UG.

Just some ideas.

IWB strong side hip with IWB strap.

Appendix preferred if wearing an untucked shirt but hardly ever do. Excellent for the "Oh Sh" speed response factor (seconds count), like a "southnarc clinch pick" model.

Looking to build a good, comfortable ankle rig for the SAR3. There are a couple of good FA ankle rigs out there that could be modified.

Is that some snake skin I see in those Leatherman pants JimmyJones?!

I don't find it odd at all that a knife guy would want to carry a fixed blade. When it comes to one the size of the AD, GW or the SAR3, it just seems a perfect addition. I got my SAR in the mail yesterday, strapped on the kydex sheath and went to work at my retirement job (firearms range/sales/training facility). Although we openly (legally) carry inside the business, due to the nature of the inventory and such, these same guys that carry (and usually multiple handguns), as well as certainly have folders on them, all commented on how "big" the SAR was and what was I gonna do with it. Curious! It's a great tool. You would never find me out without a blade of some sort. My folders are at least the same length as the SAR (honestly they are mostly longer), its just that they fold in half. It's a wacky world out there, you will probably never need it for more than opening boxes and such but it sure is handy to have!!!!!!

Good luck on finding the perfect solution. I suspect if it can be carried, these folks have done it......

WOW! Blast from the past! Before my stamp even! I appreciate the look at what was, and how far I have come since. :o Those clips were a nightmare to drill stitching holes around till I finally invented my jig, now its child's play, well untill they introduced the new clips. Now I have to reinvent the wheel, again. :p

Thanks for the pics!

Great ideas and advice. Thanks guys. And the ankle rig idea is very interesting- would work great in business dress. Please post if you find a specific solution for a SAR 3 ankle rig. I just hope I remember to remove it before going into the courthouse!

For IWB carry of all sorts I look to the Blade Tech Pull-The-Dot straps. They are very secure and sturdy. They are also super easy to mount to any holster or sheath (Okuden in my case) with an eyelet of sufficient interior opening, which is virtually all eyelet fastened sheaths.

The other IWB system that caught my eye was Galco's belt clip that fits over the top of slacks, but the body of the clip is hidden behind your belt. Only the small J-shaped rolled up lip at the bottom of the clip shows much (pic below). As the others mentioned, a little looser blousing of a tucked-in shirt and the material will flop over an IWB carry pretty well.

Like a modified Alessi (very comfortable / stable rig). Worth every penny.

Haven't tried a Mitch Rosen ankle rig but his belt holsters are also hard to beat.

Gonna make some calls next week and see what can be done. Thinking Chicago screw the SAR3 MC sheath to an Alessi rig. Will advise results.

Yup SAR5, Jerry's favorite ;)

Got one for my WHC also, they're from Steelnut, I order them without an attachment, I have a drawer full of loops and teklocs. The pancakes ride better then the tacos IMO. The handle swell acts as a stop, I hold the handle between my thumb and middle finger, use my index finger to steady the sheath, works great for me.

The Culti rode IWB for the whole trip last year in that sheath, I forget I have it and have to remember to remove it prior to getting near the commode :o
