This is my little project, a Mosin Nagant 1891-30 converted to a scout rifle. I got the MN for free, because the woodwork was rotted away, and there was spots of corrosion.
I always wanted a scout rifle, and knowing this was a Hungarian rifle with non matching numbers made in 1951, i decided to convert it to a scout.
I know some people frown upon such modifications but i decided to go forward.
As i don't live in the US i cut the AOL of the rifle to 1 meter (it's legal where i live), removed the old stock, cut and re-crowned the barrel, used an ATI monte carlo stock, mounted a illuminated EER scout scope (2.5x30), replaced the bolt with a bend handle bolt, and fitted a third sling swivel. I also mounted a quick detach Harris bi-pod.
I have shot about 50 rounds true the rifle. I encountered sticky bolt with the five first shot so i polished the extractor and the chamber. Now it works flawless. Muzzle flash is impressive but recoil is not hard.
My next addition will be a ching sling on the rifle.
Due to very strict gun laws in my country the MN falls into a special category of rifles. Due to a flaw in the gun laws they can be purchased without a permit which is VERY hard to get in my country. I wanted a rifle with punch (7.62 x 54 R), that could function as a multi purpose rifle.
I believe i have achieved this goal.
Only the weight and the external bi-pod detracts from the original specs of the "Scout rifle" concept developed by Mr Cooper.
Buying a new Steyr rifle would cost me 3500 US dollar in my country, and would be a long and expensive journey.
