How do you like your knife? (Light vs Heavy)

I was just watching some knife reviews on youtube by nutnfancy and he was talking about the weight not being above 4oz being his rule. Granted, he said that there were many knives over 4oz he likes but what do you guys think? Is it preferable to you to keep knife weight down or would you rather have the heft and solidity heavy knives bring?

Is balance more important to you than weight? Just wondering what other people think, I tend to favor heavy knives with the balance centered on my index finger. Also keep in mind I would think a small knife that is heavy for its size (but still light overall) is a heavy knife.

i prefer something in the middle. i had a pacific salt which while i know it was as strong as a knife as i'll probably ever need it was a little light. it just didnt feel hefty or built enough. i also had a zt301 which was a little too much for me. if i had to pick i'd go with heavy but i really prefer middle of the road like my old bm mini dejavoo

I'm not particularly weight picky, however it must carry 'light'- meaning that the weight is evenly distributed, the clip is placed so that it maintains it position in my pocket and is easy to draw and re-pocket, and finally it must have a usable handle shape thats both ergonomic and functionally appeasing (not blocky, no sharp edges)

my lightest- CRK small sebenza
my heaviest- ZT 0500MUDD

i am more shape yes. since i dont use the pocket clip- i just put it in my pocket- i like something nice and thin so it doesnt leave a huge outline in my pants and stick out.

I'd say I'm in the middle because I don't want it so heavy that I'm not gonna wanna lug it around but I don't want it so light that I'm going to have to pocket check all the time to make sure its still there.

I like a knife that FEELS STOUT & STRONG for it's weight. Whether it's actually heavy or light is secondary. For example, I have an A.G. Russell micarta-handled locking folder which features linerless & bolsterless handles (micarta) and a very thick-spined blade and locking bar (3/16"). The blade is a high hollow grind which then tapers to a very thin, sharp edge. Every time I pick it up, I'm always impressed by how light it actually is, relative to it's 'apparent' heft when it's just laying on the table. And when I drop it into my pocket, it's almost as if it isn't there. Very light carry. That's the best combination I can think of.

I guess it would depend on what I'm doing and where I'm heading. EDC at work or just out for a relaxing day then it would a small, light folder bt Spyderco. If I was heading into the woods for the day or an extended trip it would be a little of both. small folder or fixed and then a larger fixed for shopping and so on.

Light knives carry better in dress slacks or suit pants. Since I wear both most of the week I prefer a light knife.

My EDC is a small sebenza.

Yard duty or working on my Jeep I carry an older ZT 302, a really old Benchmade elishewitz stryker, or a para-military.

I want a decent size blade that doesn't bulge out of my pockets or cause my pants pocket to sag. Lighter knives work best for my purposes.

Depends on what I'm wearing and doing that day. My carry changes as does my clothing depending on the environment I will be in.

Depends on the chores and mostly on what I'm wearing.
Size, thickness, usability and overall comfort are more important to me.

As long as my folder weighs less than a pound, I'm fine.:)
Seriously, it seems weird how much people whine about weight.

i have many knives & my rule of thumb is choose the knife that equals the task.multitask wood work as opposed to cleaning squirrels & rabbits requires different blade profiles. certainly if one is stripping saplings for camp aids a stouter knife is required than for use on fish or small animals. all around construction site chores are more easyily handled with a jyd instead a leek.

Dress pants, obviously a ZT knife will not fit in, nor be comfortable... otherwise as long as I'm in jeans or khakis the weight is negligible unless it gets over 1/2 a pound.
