How do you manage to rotate?

I have a problem. I have a half dozen beautiful mid to high end knives, and i want to carry ALL of them, all the time... obviously that's not practical, so I consider rotating them to be the next best option, but it just doesn't seem to HAPPEN. I end up carrying my Zermeno everywhere and the rest of them just get pulled out and fondled periodically. I don't know why this happens. I like all of them pretty much equally, but the Azrael seems to end up in my pocket pretty much every day. When i am playing with them, i commit to rotating, but in my half asleep morning stupor, i just grab the Azrael, and stumble out the door...

What am i doing wrong?

I put mine in order and make a list. Each Monday I grab the next one on the list and carry it. That way each one gets equal time.

That is an easy problem to solve, give me the Azrael and you will have to grab something else!

Sometimes I'll go a week carrying a knife. Other times it'll be a one day rotation and I'll carry something different the next day. It depends on my mood and current tastes. Somtimes I'll get on a Spyderco kick and only carry my Spydes until I've rotated through all or most of them. Sometimes I'll decide Axis is my favorite locking mechanism and all of my Benchmades will get carried back to back. Or then maybe I'll carry my more "gentlemen's" style knives for a while.... They all get put to use. I can't afford all the knives I want to buy. So I have forced myself to only keep the knives I'm willing to carry. The only one I have that I don't carry is my Kershaw TiZDP Leek, I'm afraid of breaking the tip off. I just can't part with that one.

Depends on where I'm going, what I'm wearing, and what I'll be doing. Some knives might be more appropriate than others, and that helps to narrow down the choices. I have about 20 folders that I pick from.

I don't have any high end customs, etc......so this likely doesn't apply to you................................

I have other knives for when the fancy strikes me to carry something else, but the largest reason I have extras is that I won't be knifeless if I lose one, break one, or dull one and don't have time to fix it.

If I only had 1 folder, I'd feel naked just like I would if I only had one pair of shoes.....I usually wear one pair, but I sure don't want to wear hiking shoes to a formal affair..........

The knives I carry are tied into what I'm wearing, and that's determine by what I'm doing.

Certain folders carry better in some pants the others.

The knife I carry in my jeans to a job-site will be bigger then a knife I will slip into a pair of slacks when I' headed to a meeting.

Fixed blades tend to be assigned to different belts; as with folders, the nature of my attire will dictate my belt and knife combo.

Over time I do tweak the combinations to suit my changing needs and desires.

EDC is an ever changing landscape as far as I'm concerned.

I've recently decided to carry one knife for a full week before moving on to the next. Seems to be working so far.

I just grab whatever I feel like carrying, sometimes it takes a while to choose just one or two knives.

My choice of knife is heavily influenced by my clothing (as much as I love my ZT 300, it just doesn't work with some light pants) and my planed activities. The knives I carry the most tend to be those that are more versatile and easy to carry.

I grab whatever tickles my fancy when I'm getting dressed. One day this one, the next day that one, etc. Sometimes the same knife for several days. Don't sweat it. Carry the one you like to carry for as long as you want. The others will be there when you feel like a change.

I do have a favorite that gets daily.

very hard to choose though, I only have about 5 folders too, I couldnt imagine having 20-50 and trying to choose from that lot.

Do you grab a different girl every night...or your favorite?
I've got a fair selection of NIB folders. They stay that way until sold or traded.
I ALWAYS carry an Umnumzaan or a large Sebbie. Both are users. No contest; no problem.

I usually rotate between 3-5 EDC's just grab what I feel like on any given day , If I get something new for EDC purposes I give it a straight 4 weeks with no rotation to see if it will work it's way in to the rotation. I'm currently in to the 3rd week of my Opinel & at this point I would say that it will work itself in. It has done everything asked of it.

You're a lucky guy to have such a problem ! I usually grab what calls me in the display (given the expected day and chores...) but it's "attraction". Get those who call you and be happy with it. If some never get to be used over, let's say, a year... then you can as well sell or gift them.

It's really just up to when my mind decides, "HEY! Let's carry something different today!" I'll carry sometimes for a day, sometimes several days, and there are times when a knife stays in rotation for a month or longer before I get the urge to give something else some pocket time. Dress will also modify what I carry. Obviously not taking the Espada-L to a wedding, maybe if I had an XL it would be more fitting for the occasion?

My EDC folders are the same ones (2 different sizes) every day. One goes in each front pocket.

My variation comes in the fixed blade of the day. That matches what I am wearing/doing. GENERALLY, the "go to town" fixed blade is a standard "small" (<5in) hunting knife, e.g., Kabar 1232 or 1233. More formal (i.e., gotta wear a suit/tux), that shifts to my 1931 Western no model number K3 predecessor. Farm/field work leads to various Kabar Mk1s and/or Mk2s.

My BM 530 is my m-f 9-5 knife. The rest just get used as needed and depending on what I'm wearing. I'm the only one at the office today so I wore jeans and am carrying my Spyderco GB. I keep all my folders in the top drawer of my dresser, and just grab one and go when I'm not working.

If I can't decide which knife to carry, I let my son pick my EDC for the day. Then I ask him why he picked that one just for fun. Kids have very interesting ways to look at things and make choices.
