How do you open blister packs with a slipjoint?

My slipjoint works great on blister/clamshell packaging. Of course, not everybody's SAK comes with a pruning blade (Victorinox Pioneer Rancher...basically a Soldier with a pruning blade instead of the canopener).

Hawkbills, sheepsfoots (sheepsfeet?), and wharncliffes are the best choice for clamshells. Although I find that the scissors on my Squirt S4 work pretty damn well (while SAK scissors are lacking, unless they're Wengers).

Same as Nash the Slash, I use heavy duty scissors to open all but the flimsiest bubble pack. A lot safer.

OK, I'm wierd but I pinch the blade between my thumb and forefinger so that maybe 1/2 inch of the blade shows and use the exposed blade to open blister packs. I don't worry about the knife folding up because I have a hold of the blade.

If you're opening those god-awful blister packs, use a good locking folder. As much as slipjoints get the job done most of the time, i need a big friggen locker to slice those things. Or a big pair of shears...stupid things...

Yes, I usually use of of my larger folders that has a great lock like he said!!! I hate blister packs!! Hate them!!

Even with a freshly sharpened locking blade it ain't easy.

I usually pull out a pair of heavy duty shears to cut those &%#@'s open.

I hate blisterpacks. I always use scissors on them and I've still cut myself on a rough plastic edge.

No body uses a utility knife? A $0.88-walmart-bought-made-in-china utility knife does the trick nicely.

I haven't had any problems using my Vics to open blister packs, sheepfoot and prunning blades seem to work better.

Serrations on clam shells work well for me.
The locking serrated blade on the Vic OH Trekker has no problems.

I never thought it was really that difficult...stab through an area not containing the product, then insert the blade into the slit (between the two layers of plastic) and cut

Like some of the others have said the sheepsfoot works well on clampacks. Get yourself a stockman with a sheepsfoot blade -- Queen, Case with CV, or even a Buck 301.

The best knife I've ever used on clampacks, however, is a Spyderco Dodo.

I have those friggen things. It seems like every christmas present comes in a heavey duty blister pack these days. EMT shears seem to work best of all.

i avoid knives when opening those things as well with the exception of the gut hook on my leatherman. scissors work best

I whip out my 705, and cut the blister packaging right where it meets the cardboard, like i am tracing it out of the package.

Don't you SAK guys get your knives in blister packs, if so, how do you get them out in the first place?:D

I usually slice the end off like a slice of pepperoni.
I hope he's talking about the blisterpack and not his finger. I have been known to do the latter. Hence, no more folders - fixed blades ftw. Why use an inferior tool?

Put the horrid thing in a sunny window for 10 years or so, until the plastic turns yellow and brittle. Then put on safety goggles and gloves, and crumple the the dam plastic with your angry hands. I hate clam packs!

(Alternate method: use the heavy-duty scissors that "everyone" has in their first aid kits.)
