How do you open your axis lock knife?

What type of pliers do you use? Do you like a toothy jaw to get a good grip on the blade, or do you like a smooth jaw so you do not damage the blade?:p

toothy on coated blades, smooth on satin blades so I don't muss the finish. if I don't have my pliers, I'll pull it out with a wad of chewing gum.

I thumb it open on the stud, and it looks just like assist! It reminds me of Kershaw's flipper knives just that your flipping with the stud and not a finger flipper.

I use the thumbstuds almost every time.
I only use the "Axis Flip" when I am at the mall with my crew.

I use the thumbstud. When I have experimented with flicking it open it bounces back shut half the time - not good for my fingers. Plus it is easier and more convenient to open with the thumbstud. I guess that's why its there.

I pretty much just use the lock and not the stud. I don't flick it, though. I pull back on the lock, turn my wrist, and the blade rolls out and into position. It really just happens without conscious thought. I appreciate how effortless and natural it opens and closes that I'm only interested in Benchmade knives. I wish Spyderco would come up with something similar.

That's the caged Ball lock. Try it on the Manix 2.

I bought one (like it!) and had the same impression. However, unlike the Axis, there is no freakin' way I am able to unlock that sucker with one finger. The updside, however, is that there is also no freakin' way that coil spring is ever going to fail, and if it does, it won't matter. So...toss a coin...I'm looking forward to when they bring that caged ball lock to the Sage series.

Been flicking mine open several times a day going on eight years now. No problems with lockup. I don't think I have ever used the thumb studs.
