I have not found a good way to organize drill bit right now I just use a cup....so how do you?
Thanks

I have both numbered and fractional drill bits and keep them in an index. The ones I use often I put in upside down so they're easy to find. I always put them back as soon as I'm done using them.

I keep a tap drill, tap, and clearance drill from #6 to 1/2" fine and course thread as a kit for each size in a drawer with segregations. Everything else is in an index.

This is a fun question ;0)

I have an index box with a number of missing bits mostly due to breakage, Then I have a large coffee can full of miscellaneous bits that I have collected over the years, After that I have a small soup can with the bits I use the most, and for backup I have an 8"x10"x4" steel box full of the bits my dad collected over his 85 year life span, And because it is such a well organized system, it never takes me longer then 20 minutes to find the proper size bit :0l

I have a large Hout drill index dispenser system for lettered, numbered, and fractional through 1/2". Silver and Demming drills are in a couple wood index boxes in one of my machining rollaways. I have a dedicated wide drawer in my main mechanics tools rollaway that contains a full index of lettered, numbered and fractionals plus forstners, brad points, double ended aircraft drills, long drills, etc. I also keep a small tray near the drill press that holds several each, of the drills and countersinks I use all the time. Though I replace drills frequently, it has been decades since I didn't have the size I needed on hand when I needed it.

I'm a bit like John. I have a brown paper sack, small, that I keep them in, on my workbench. All of them. In order to compensate for some of that, I don't use many sizes. 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4, that's all. I keep three or four of each on hand, tops. When I need a bit, I reach in the bag, grab a few, and pick out the size I need. If I had multiple fractional and letter sets, my way would stink. As it is with just a few sizes, it works for me.

1. magnetic strip on wall next to my drill press, labeled with spots for the ones I use most (I have one strip for folders, one for fixed, one for etc...)

2. plastic shop storage drawers with labels on the drawers for the rest

Most are in a drill index box.

Some are in a wood block Ive drilled holes in to accomodate the shank and labeled with a pen.

Yep, multiple drill index boxes around the shop.

Also a few of these. You can also superglue a block of wood underneath and drill a few more holes for odd sizes you use at the drillpress.

Patrice, Where did you get that little jewel?
Another use for a frisbee.

Not sure how I ended up on this thread but what about some of that green foam for flower decorating? You can write on it with a sharpee and just stick in the bits.

William, you should be able to find these in big names hardware stores like Ace or Home-Depot. If not, I am sure Horror-Fright sells something similar online.

At least over here in the metric world buying a set like this is a LOT cheaper then buying single bits. 1-10mm per 1/2mm
I keep special size bits for tapping treadhs with the tools for that and I have a small drawer for replacement bits and sprcial bits like extra long or solid carbide.
But mostly I use the set from the picture and it stands next to my drillpress

I have read this thread several times and still am confused....what is this word ORGANIZE...I do not know of it. Is it a French idiomatic word used in Quebec?

What does organize mean.?? All of mine are just in one tool box.!! When I need one I just start look-un until the right one
shows up ~~ and it always does sooner or later.!**
