How do you pack your hawks...?

I am seriously in need of some help from Survival Sheath Systems ...har...!

I was wondering how you guys might pack your hawks, in various situations.

This is my redneck house-entry kit ...hehehe! - the hawks on the side would be for the entry man as a tertiary weapon, with quick-draw string set-up,

...and the back one with maybe six M4 magazines would be to support your partner when things get a little iffy (the mag pouches also serve as a nice rifle rest, when ya put sand bags in them BTW - YMMV)

this set-up might be good if you are carrying a rifle and a shotgun, one on each side - doing the mule thing, SF style - the hat velcro holds the handles on a loop.

i want to integrate those long hawks into a pack frame or something eventually.

i know these verge on the ridiculous, but hey! it's comfy and it does its job ...okay, maybe they ARE RIDICULOUS ...hehehe! ...let's see what YOU got, fellow-babies...:)....

....show it, show it....

....let's see those pictures, brethren.

thanks in advance,

vec: Great looking stuff ! I have some velcro fastened to a tackle box, a camera bag and a ammo box which I attach a hawk to.
Also have a shoulder rig and some sheaths from Kenny Rowe.

vector001,

I don't have any pictures, but my method is ultra simple, and low profile...
My 'day pack' has dual zippers that meet at the top (main compartment zippers)... so I just put my Frontier hawk in head-first, and let the handle stick out at the top... I zip the zippers up against the handle from both sides...

Deployment is very fast: unzip one side... pull it out...

Low profile because you only see about 3-4 inches of the handle... er, um... HAFT!!!

dusty-brother! - are brother rowe's sheaths made out of leather, or...?

will he do a leather bag...?

TIA...!

yeah, i really like that idea, and use it occasionally when entering state parks, etc., before i know the lay of the land.

the only drawbacks that i can think of are ya can't draw it fast, it might get clammy and oxidize the head in there, and the zippers will travel the more you walk or trot with it, unless you take even more measures, further impeding quick access (which is my direction with my styles of carry - such as the redneck entry pack mode)...:)... but that last bit might not be true, depending on whether or not your pack choice has smooth zippers, i reckon ...hmmmm....

i guess you could put a surf-suit-type leash on the zippers for quick zipper pull....

my short hawks will fit in the pack nicely ...and the 24-inch lengths work, and give ya more handle to index, but then ya get bopped in the back of the head, especially if ya go to ground ...that always makes me feel good, gettin' brained by my own gear ...hehehehe...!

my favorite lengths are those 28-inchers, like on the tan pack picture above...;

the long hawks go great on the side, stowed vertically, ...or in an X-pattern as shown, due to that length, ...but the weight difference is so negligible to the little ones, i just love them the most, ...and i'd like to get a decent carry system going, ...and i'm sure some buddy is thinking up a good one...:)....

kindly keep those ideas flowin' brethren...!

i love to hear what you are doing.

I use the Ice axe straps on my packs. slip the handle through the lower loop, rock it back up and close the quick release upper strap on the handle.....good to go. The only thing I really need to do is get some sort of small blade cover, with a tie off hole, then when drawn it will simply stay attached to the pack (I was thinking a friction fit small kydex edge cover.

Yes his work is leather and very nice as for a leather bag not sure.
Here is his "E" mail rowesleather@yahoo.com

yeah ...i think a lot of us were thinking along similar lines.

ya think just have a dummy cord on the kydex, where it just snaps away, when ya deploy the hawk, brother ...?

what could we do with shock cord...?

thanks for the advice.

I have had both leather and kydex sheaths for my hawks. I prefer leather for all other sheath applications, particularly for my knives. But for a hawk, kydex is the only way to go. Exceptionally fast deployment with a well built sheath. Kydex allows for the hawk to be removed from below, allowing the hawk to be grasped and never leaving the hand or changing grip to remove it. With all other leather designs I have seen the hawk must be switched hands or the grip changed to remove it from the sheath. Kydex all the way for hawks as far as I am concerned. Unless I see a better leather design.

I let whatsername carry mine. She's always following me around...might as well make herself useful.

I am planning on getting this 'Throwing Tomahawk' (the bigger of the 2 shown) and the 'Holster' (their wording) shown for it... I want it for hiking, camping, etc...

Yes! I saw this "holster" at Cabelas a while back and I liked the idea. It reminded me of a "Frog" (used in colonial times to carry a sword/tomahawk combination). Using the idea of a "holster" and a "frog" I had a friend work me up a design for my Cold Steel GSM1 hawks. Some of youze guys may have seen these before, but here they are again for those who haven't...

CitizenQ I have seen that pic before from an earlier post you did. It looks nice. One of the few holsters I have seen that looks better from the back side.

Glock17JHP, the only thing about that cabelas "holster" is that it leaves the blade exposed. I like to slip hawks in my belt when I am just messing arround, but ever once in a while I will catch my self on the edge. it is always a bummer.

Bigfattyt,

My 'shape' is such that I do OK with a sheath like that, so long as I position the blade to the rear, and the sheath just behind my hip bone a bit...

Any chance you or your friend would be willing to make a few more of these sheaths and sell them?

Thanks,
John

I usually just thrust the hawk through the back of my belt.Though I wouldn't mind a blade cover once and a while.

here, I took two pics of my day pac with the hawk and a two knives attached. Of course, the carry method with my larger pack is similar.
