How Do You "Parkarize" a Blade?

And what are the benefits (aside from being non-reflective; does it protect better than other coatings? Please explain

I doubt that it would hold up very well but would make an interesting looking blade.
There are definately better products on the market.
I believe Brownells gunsmithing supply has what you need if you want to try it.
 
Many of Newt Livesay's knives are prkarized. I have a small neck knife from him and it seemed to have a black powdery coating which has since dissipated. I asked him to explain the process but never heard from him.

Do you know how well the parkerizing holds up? Being a lover of old military rifles the thought of a parkerized blade has some appeal to me.
