How do you polish the stainless steel handle

I have a Police with stainless handle and serrated blade. It gets used a lot, and occasionally gets some scratches on the surface. What would you use to remove scratches and polish the surface ? What grit of sandpaper, or what else would you use ? Thanks -

IIRC the original finish is achieved using a Scotch-Brite pad (belt?) - that should work to refresh it also.

I have used 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper sucessfully on satin finishes. You might go with a finer paper to see the result. I use Flitz metal polish to shine things up.

Huh? All my stainless handled knives look like the aftermath of Armageddon. I thought they were supposed to be all scratched up, just so people will know they are real knives, not movie props or museum pieces
