How do you pronounce HAMON?

Why should posting on old threads be avoided?
Many contain information that newer members will have never seen.
I do not understand why older threads are closed simply because they're 'older'.
There are many threads in the Custom sub-forum that have been going on for years, and no one ever mentions closing them.
They're full of information.
And this, being an information-rich forum, should keep things alive and active as long as humanly possible.

For a blade , accent on the first syllable, for a Spanish cured ham , accent the second syllable !!
Use the blade to slice the ham and make a sandwich !!

Karl,
When a new member pulls up an old thread with no new or useful input, or a suggestion/question to the OP ( which is useless, since the discussion was answered many yeas ago), there is no gain. When the thread is 6-10 years old, it is often closed. Old threads don't go away, even if they are closed. Closing just stops more unnecessary posts. They can be found in searches, just like open threads. In many cases, the moderators see that the same new member has pulled up several old threads and is making posts on all of them. Closing these makes housekeeping easier.
Threads that run for years are ones that are constantly refreshed with new info. The "What's happing in your shop" type threads stay current permanently.
