How do you remove a Mora's pommel?

What's the best way to remove the colored butt-end of a Mora knife without destroying the knife? I'm talking about the red piece on this picture:

I don't think you can. The knife looks like a 711 and the modern Moras of this type have a partial tang that extends about 1/3 - 1/2 of the way into the handle. I think that red plastic extends all the way to the blade. The red plastic is covered with a softer black plastic for grip.
 
its possible that the blade will loosen if you take it to a grinder and remove the end. i would contact the company and ask them what you can do. if you do grind it off and it gets loose, i guess there is always super glue :D
 
You can grind it of if you like, it will not losen the blade but the red plastic will still be visible from the back
like BoT said it runs through the whole handle. The tang extends about half the length of the handle behind the finger groove.
