How do you resist the temptation?

I don't, I use 'em. A wise man once told me, "When your dead and gone, do you want your wife's new husband to have all those nice shiny knives? Use 'em!"

Just one point of view.

I suppose if you had a safe queen and you wanted to resist carrying it...make it really difficult to get to. Like put in a sealed glass display case.

When I pass, I want all of my knives melted into a blob and dumped in the ocean, just so no one else can have them. :D

Don't have safe queens.

I always felt if you have it, may as well use it, or sell it.

Ditto. My feeling exactly.

I believe anything made to be used should be used, used well, and used for its intended purpose, with respect...

If you use a knife as a knife,(not crow bar, hammer, etc) it won't look much different from minty new after several years of use, barring a little less shiny.

I do find it an insult in a way to the item, and its designer/maker, to not use something that a designer, maker, manufacturer intended to be used and used a lot... (a lot of this comes from being a custom maker once upon a time)

BUT;
I do respect the collectors to do as they wish, and wish them no ill will. Its a varied world, and different people enjoy different parts of our mutual interest. In a lot of ways i love seeing what the collectors post, like waynorth, and 300B, the rare ones I'd never seen before.... Sometimes I see one I'd love to have, would be a great user-- and if not for collectors keeping them, I'd not be able to get one.

Maybe the last two guys that kept that knife minty for 10 years, were just there so you could get it, and use it. ;)

Carry it carefully for a couple days. cut something with it. If you feel too guilty about it, you can always put it away again.

I have a few that don't see as much pocket time as the EDCs do but I still use 'em, just don't abuse 'em.

Besides, after your dead and gone your wife's only gonna sell 'em at a yard sale for $1 a piece.

For me, it all comes down to the fact that I can't afford (or justify) to buy a knife that I'm not going to use. Sure some day when I have kids I will give them knives, but for now I use all my knives. What good are they if I don't?

I'm with stwdh16. I can't afford to buy knives I can't use.

I can't afford to buy knives, period :p.

Great sentiment.

I've been all over the map w/collecting. At one time I had $30,000 tied up in safe queens. At the time I didn't understand myself well enough to know why I did it. Now, I'm down to 3-4 safe queens. My customs are what I edc, and a few old traditionals I "collect".

How do YOu keep a safe queen safe?
I don't. :p

I understand why some people want to save collectable knives in pristine condition, but I don't roll that way. To me, knives are to be used and I use them. Even though I have far more knives than I need for EDC, almost all of them see at least some pocket time or use while camping during the course of a year (well, except for that Böker Smatchet I just had to buy... that's the clostest thing to a "safe queen" in my collection. But hell, th day the zombies ever break down the door, even that one is going to become a "user" real fast! :p
