How do you save your money without spending it on another knife?

I usually save about 75% of what I need and then get a tattoo instead and have to start over, hopefully saving fast enough to actually buy the knife I wanted before I think of another tattoo I want.

It would be so much easier if I only had 1 hobby.

I like the $5 bill idea also. I would just have to make sure my wife didn't know where the envelope is.

I like the $5 thing as well. And yeah, I have been saving for a while and I have been selling off non knife things for cash but I always end up needing to use it for other things. I would sell some knives off but I don't have many and the ones I do have I like lol I sold off the only one I didn't care for a few months ago

Thats another one of my problems lol I have a few other hobbies and I always get side tracked on saving for a knife and buy something for my dirt bike or guitar, its hard to keep focused on what I am saving for and not spend it on anything else. I am always like "Oh hey I have enough money for (insert item here) " and blow what I was saving lol

I write down a list of things I need to save for, from top priority to menial and stick to it. Shift off the majority of your paycheck or funds into a separate account so there is less impulse to dip into the funds. All about control.

I sell a knife so that I can afford a different knife. Works for me.

I want to do this. because i have a Curtiss F3 laying around here and never gets used.
I love this knife, but Ive used it like two Times.. and Its a 630$ knife, or i bought it for that..so.. :/

I have the idea of trading knives for ones I want, or sell the ones I have not used and do not have an attachment to to afford ones that catch my eye. I like the idea of putting $5 away, over time it build up.

I did this to, and then thought about every item, if i needed it, if so, how much did i need it? How often would i use it, and so on..
It didnt work for me, the list builded up faster than i could get the item. And i Always changed the things i wanted, so it was alot of adding and deleting things on the list.
But if i decide to get something, i must have it noooow! So thats why it didnt work for me. :)

Get off the forums. It's near impossible for me to save when I keep coming here and seeing all the incredible things posted here.

Pay off the balance before the due date on credit cards every month without fail. Take the cash back awards from credit card and spend it on something pointy.

I make it a little game these days. When I come home from work I empty my pockets. My wallet is one of those with a billfold clip on the outside. So whenever I have a spare dollar or two which is rare as I normally use a debit card, I take out the bill and stuff it in an envelope near where I keep my wallet.

When I hit $300 - I'm picking up a Sebenza! lol. I can buy one anytime, but they are so pricey I don't feel comfortable flat out buying a knife that I want simply because I like it, versus say the little Peanut that I just spent $13 on which I plan on using regularly since the pattern is so easy going. Vs a small Sebenza which I don't need but just want for kicks.

I hired three ninjas to work in three shifts, watching me 24/7. Their instructions are to chop off both my hands, should I attempt to purchase the wrong knife.

Seriously. I'm dead serious.

How much are you paying them? :)

The one thing that's slowing me down from buying more knives is, I want to work on my sharpening skills because quite frankly I have none.:p You can have all the knives in the world but if you don't know how to sharpen or keep your knives sharp there not going to do you much good unless you plan on just keeping them in a display.:D

I'll have to remember that one lol

I generally will spend a little on a knife only if I sell another knife first. I am trying not to spend anymore on knives now so I will have to trade/sell one that I have to get another. I am down to two knives now and I don't see myself getting rid of these soon (XM-18 and sebenza 25), but you never know.

Fondle what you have, sharpen, rinse and repeat.

There's always something on my radar, but this does curb the urge a little for me, re-appreciating what I have on a regular basis, and reminds me that it's quality that counts. Not quantity.

We all struggle. It's a sickness. :)

So I am having a hard time saving my cash for a Para2, I am at the point where I can afford another knife I want and it is so tempting to just buy the other one. :p How do you all make yourselves save for your next purchase? Its so hard lol

I don't. :D
