How do you say Uncle?

Pakcik Bill.
What does it mean by Didi? Does that term referring to Makcik Yangdu?

In Finnish, maternal uncle is "eno" (the "e" pronounced kinda like trying to say "error" but stopping right after the "e"). The paternal uncle would be "setä" (I hope I got the HTML for the umlaut...), the "se" pronounced like in "sense" and the "tä" is like "tae" or "taeh", I'm not so sure. I guess Bill-setä, would be ok, since a kid could say to a man he/she doesn't know "Hey mister" or "Hei setä".

Two important questions in life:
Do they have a catalog?
Did you know there's a town called "Batman" in Turkey?

Here's some more for the mix, Uncle Bill!

In certain Tibetan-based languages like Denzong (Sikkimese) and, I think, Dzong-kha (Bhutanese), though I'm not so sure of the latter:

"Ashyang" - maternal uncle
"Aku" - paternal uncle

If they're your mother's or father's elder brother, you add "Gembo" or "Bompu" - both of which means "elder" - after "Ashyang" or "Aku" as the case may be. Thus "Ashyang-Gembo" or "Aku-Bompu". You might also say "Aba-Bompu" for dad's elder brother, "Aba" means father.

It's a bit confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, then one word, and you know exactly the type of uncle that's being referred to!

Bhanis, I discovered that the Nepalis, Sherpas, Tibetans and most other folks in that part of the world have a specific name to tie down almost any family relationship. Sorry to say, I got so bogged down I just couldn't keep track of them all.

Little wonder I got many quizitive looks along with some stern ones -- like when I'd call an uncle "aunt Gelbu!"

More to add to the list!

I just realized somebody did that gag.

Oh well. Here's "Uncle" in BINARY (8 bit ASCII):
0101010101101110011000110110110001100101

And no, I didn't make that up, I'm way too anal for that! See also: http://members.xoom.com/chayla/binhexascii.htm
