How do you sharpen S30V?

Anyone have any recommendations on sharpening techniques for S30V?

If you use a 2" x 72" belt, what grit (eg. 120 grit?) and steps do you use? Do you power strop with a buffer? Do you use polishing compounds?

Does S30V like a rough edge or a finely polished one?

I will be sharpening a 7" Santoku, convex edge.

Thanks!

I use 3M Trizact belts up to A-30 (400? grit), then green CrO rouge on a buffing wheel. S30V likes polished edges.

I use a 400 grit aluminum oxide belt (make sure it is a fresh 400 grit belt) at approx. 17 deg. each side, and then on to a leather strop with white buffing compound. It comes out hair poppin sharp every time.

For a convex ground blade like above, grind on a slack belt. The structured abrasives like the 3M Trizact and Norton Norzon belts run cooler and last much longer than AlO belts.
