How do you store/display your knives?

My wife got me a very nice small display case as a gift last year (still working on filling it.) I was curious as to how you store or display your knives. I know there are people on here with a ton of knives, so let's see some pictures of your knife storage.

I bought a solid oak bookshelf at a garage sale for a buck, carried it five blocks home on my shoulder. Bought a used flannel blanket, washed it, and cut it up to line the shelves with to match my outdoorsman themed apartment and keep the wood from scratching the knife finishes, and most of my blades are organized there. I bought a wall hanging coat rack to hang my machetes from on lanyards.

My wife also bought me few cases and helped to arrange my Spydies

the picture a little old. few knives already gone, but new came in.

^ very nice. mine looks kind of like the one you have on the top of the left wall. and that is a lot of spydies.

Two spydie-packs(one 30 and the other 18) next to each other.

Will try to get a picture later.

I keep mine in a lock box. There are various compartments in it that I use for specific knives. There's a top center one that I use for my favorite EDCs, some other side compartments for "collectible" ( mostly sentimental ) knives, and the bottom compartment just houses cheap beater knives. I hold this in a larger locked chest with my fixed blades and a machete.

I don't really have a strong reason for putting them in a lock box except that my friend's bring their kids over a lot and I don't want them to get out of sight and get cut.

Hi folks -

I wanted to bump this up - I am looking for ideas on how to display my knife collection in my new "man-room" (vacated childs bedroom...).

I will also be displaying my collection of Jack Daniels Decanters (all full...).

Pictures of your display(s) and details would be great.

Thanks and best regards -

Dumb question-
How do you keep them from "falling"?
Is it the pressure from the "glass"?

If you search "knife display" on Google there are several sites that have various different display options.
You could also make your own if you have a large arts and crafts store nearby.

I just thought of another interesting option. You could use magnetic knife strips like the ones used for kitchen knives. That way the knives are still accessible for fondling; a moral imperative if it is to be a true "man cave". :D You could cover the magnetic bars with thin fabric to prevent scratching the knives and even make simple frames around them as a sort-of open "show case."

Hey; I may be on to something...

Kind of a bad picture. but this is my method right now.
Its a display from Ikea... pretty cheap but its not ''dust''proof.

its the: DETOLF model. in Europe they cost around 40 euro(without the lights).
I actually dont mind that its not dust proof. This way i get to play with my knifes more often when i clean the display out ^^

Hi guys -

Cool display case, eonXboX360. I would not be able to use something like that due to the footprint, but I love the way it looks with your collection in it.

I like Ranger's idea - I wonder how I could get those magnetic strips....cover them with some sort of material and then I could attach the knives magnetically on the wall.

I am liking that idea a lot......

Thanks for the pictures and ideas -

best regards -

In a desk drawer and lock box... lol. If I ever get a new house with a man cave then they will go on display there with firearms and what not.

Amazon has quite a few options; even one covered in Bamboo... Link.

IIRC the one I have in my kitchen is made by Chicago Cutlery and it holds very well. The key is making sure it is strong so it works through fabric. I know the standard magnetic knife strips vary dramatically in quality, so be forwarned if you can't try before you buy. As for the thin fabric; it can usually be found anywhere they sell craft supplies, same goes for materials for the frame.

Better yet, you could just make your own by getting some disc shaped rare-earth magnets and mounting them in a board. You could create whatever shape and size board you wanted and drill holes just deep enough for the magnets to be glued in and sit just above flush with the surface. Then cover the board with the material of your choice, I'm thinking something like the thin felt used on a pool table, and make a picture frame to complete the display board.

Rare earth, or neodymium, magnets are strong as hell and should have no problem holding the weight of a pocket knife through thin fabric. Hell; if the magnet is thick enough, I bet you could wrap it in thin leather or suede and it would still hold.

Materials are easy:
  • 3/4" (or thicker) plywood or board cut to whatever size you want.

  • Disc-shaped neodymium magnets... These should do nicely.
As you can see there are several sizes and thicknesses depending on how much weight you want to hold and what pattern you want to use.

  • A few square feet of the fabric of your choice.

  • A pre-made picture frame with the board cut to the same dimensions, or make your own frame to fit your board.
A miter box and some fancy base-board works quite well for making a cheap frame.

  • The appropriate hardware/glue to build your frame and tack the fabric to the back of the board.

  • A few basic handtools. (Hand drill, hammer, cheapo miter box from Wally World, and some sand paper and/or spray paint/stain to finish the frame.)

It can be as simple or fancy as you choose. The magnets can be placed only in certain spots or in a checker pattern all over so you can place the knives almost anywhere on the board. It'd be like a table on the wall.

The only two things I'd say to be careful of is to make sure you use thick enough magnets for your particular knives, and be sure they sit just above the surface of the board so they touch the knife. If you accidentally drill too deep, just put a washer in the hole to bring the magnet up to the proper height. Quarter inch thick neodymium magnets are probably overkill, but you don't want a knife to fall off the board and skewer someone, or worse, break the tip. :D

This is how I my store my knife collection inside a safe. Each in a labeled knife pouch with dessicant inside :)

I don't have the room space to put my folders on display so I keep them in a box. I use baby socks to prevent scratching. It works very well, but it got my old mother very dissapointed. She saw her son buying blue socks and expected a grandson. Sorry mum.
