How do you store your good knives when not in use?

I saw wd 40 and wanted to add it leaves a coating of crud on the blade after it dry's and will need to be cleaned after storage and will wash out grease and oil if used on folders, I used to do it myself but have switched to oil.

All my folders are stainless. They sit in a drawer or on top of a dresser. My non stainless fixed blades all have kydex or generic plastic (Mora) sheaths. They get a light coat of mineral oil and live in their sheaths, in a drawer or on top of a dresser.

I use an old 5 drawer Craftsman tool chest (their cheap homeowner grade) Lined the drawers with rubber mats and brush a thin coat of Breakfree Collector on them. Best metal protector I've found yet. They'll be looking good long after I'm gone.

Drail,
How does that Breakfree Collector compare to RIG (Rust Inhibitor Grease) ?
I know RIG is discontinued, so I'm looking for a replacement rust-preventor-goop.
:)

Thanks,
JMH

I store my fixed blades out of their sheaths, in individual compartments in a Pelican Rifle case. Each blade is wiped down with Hoppes #9 prior to oiling with OTIS gun oil. I also have Vapor Corrision Inhibitor packs inside the case (covers a 500 square foot area...a bit overkill but hey!). In addition there is three cans of moisture-sorb silica. I change them out every few weeks, (i got 4 x 50lb bags of the stuff).

My folders are stored in their boxes inside a smaller Pelican case, same thing, VCI packs and moisturesorb packs.
