How do you store your knives?

I only have a few knives right now, but I keep finding more that I like and I just want to buy because, let's face it, knives are awesome! But I was wondering how to store my knives. How do you guys store them? In a safe? In some sort of display case? What?

I keep my high ends in individual cases but for my bulk collection I use Maxpedition Dodecapods.

In a safe now. Break-in back in 2005 saw most of them disappear. Almost 8 years later and STILL trying to replace some of them.

Don't use something portable...someone else will find it easy to walk away with.

I store them very carefully.

This helps them recover from the emotional distress and abandonment issues from when you have to toss them in the bushes to avoid an unexpected metal detector...:p

All joking aside, keep your knives somewhere safe, Ferrari. Pelican/Hardigg/Storm cases, SKB cases, Seahorse cases...something you can secure them in.

Indeed. Might be a good idea to keep W&C in W&C you don't want infractions for trolling ;).

What kind of individual cases?

Something similar to a case like this you can find on bladehq:

I use a wooden office type "inbox" that I lined with felt. Functional but nothing special.

Most of my "colector" knifes and knifes that don't get carried as much go in a metal box. The rest hang out next to the box on my desk.

I keep 12 blades on an "EDC shelf" and stick others in a larger spyderco pack that goes in the closet. The girlfriend approves of this knife storage situation.

I stick them in a drawer. I have a machete that's too big to fit in the drawer, so it sits on a shelf.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever had to do that to avoid a metal detector?
