How do you store your knives?

I'm with you Zuches, I bought the 8 drawer chest from Harbor. Not as fancy as some but at $90 it's a good value for the buck. I'd rather spend my cash on knives anyway! Buy the cheap box from China, buy good knives from the U.S. makers. Makes sense to me.

Bills cases are the best, and as you get more, put them in storm or pelican cases. Air and water tight, and easy to take with you.

I have some 3 & 5 slot plastic stands, like those in the Buck Dealer catalog, on two separate fixed glass shelves in a hex 'Goebel's Crystal' display case. The bottom mirrored shelf has the biggies, Bear Damascus Bowie, KaBars, etc, on it. The heat from the two halogen bulbs in the top keeps the humidity down - and the cat off the metal screen on top. The locking glass door offers some security, along with those attack cats. The base is a covered particle board, with a locking door. The bottom inside of said base has extra homebrew ammo for ballast, while the upper one contains boxes, sheaths, etc, secured by a locking door.

I got this for my wife's 'collectibles' from a local gift shop that dropped the line - a steal at $75. She, sadly for our bank account, happily for my knives, quickly outgrew it. Her larger case, a similar gift shop goodie - but gigantic - was $200 - is much larger in footprint - all glass - and has more display shelves. Gift stores are always changing lines - and going out of business. Just don't drop any of those knives!

I use semi large tackle boxes that are durable and stack, with built in handles that don't interfere with with things like stackability. Joe

I mostly keep them in random drawers all over the place. :D No paddings in the drawers either, but the bottoms of the drawers are wood, so it doesn't matter too much. For some carbon steel knives, I put a layer of saran wrap on the bottom of the drawer, so the drawer doesn't get all messed up by the oil on the knives. Nothing too complicated, so they're quick to access. It's worked well enough for me.

Good Burglar alarm first and foremost or awful mean watch dog. But I have posted mine several times and many may be tired of it, but this was my solution, you could build one to suit the size of your collection.

I keep knives in boxes and knife rolls and the wife has been after me for years to display them.

I like what you have built for your display Jim.:thumbup:

Thanks for the idea. I can see this as great way to have the EDC (users) at hand in the morning and get me out of the rut of carrying the same knives, to enjoy more from my collection.
If I see them, I'll think of them.

Thanks

Thank you for the compliment, the shelves are cut from 1/4" x 1 1/2'' x 29''. (approximate size) local glass shop cut them all from scrap glass and all edges I used a belt sander on so no sharp edges on them, all the vertical wooden strips were routed out at one time as to keep them lined up. The frame is similar to a picture frame except extended out from wall 1 3/4''. Easy to do with a wood shop, but did take some time, the back is 1/4'' luan painted charcoal. Good Luck with your project.

Here is the middle level in the display case I mentioned in my earlier thread:
