Still...thats a monster hog. That is crazy that it was running around in the woods down there and didn't get people freaked out! I have to assume the guides new about the hog (tracks, sign) but I could be wrong. Imagine startling that big mutha swashing a trail through some brush...that would be one helluva story if it didn't eat you....cool link.

I could just be me, but that looks like a play on the camera angle. Looks like he's about 5-10 feet back from that hog.

Anyone else think that?

He probable is 10 feet back to get this monster in frame and you can see it still is not fully in frame. I don't think they used a camera trick.

Correction about the weight. my mistake. He shot it 8 times with a 50 Caliber hand gun and chased it for 3 hours before shooting at point blank. So it's defiantly one big mean hog.

More meat on it than the 1200 pound roach someone kilt a couple of yarns ago. Lotsa waste with a roach.

May 1, 2007—With a name like "Hogzilla," it was probably inevitable. The big pig—shown above with his killer, hunting guide Chris Griffin, in 2004—looks to be headed to the big screen with tusks blazing.

In The Legend of Hogzilla the sizeable swine will rampage across southern Georgia, just as it did in real life, though presumably with a higher body count. As an Internet sensation, the real Hogzilla may have brought down a server or two but isn't known to have attacked any humans.

Scientists who exhumed Hogzilla for the National Geographic Society in November 2004 put to rest rumors of a 1,000-pound (453-kilogram), 12-foot (3.7-meter) monster. The researchers estimated he weighed 800 pounds (363 kilograms) and was 8 feet (2.4 meters) long. (National Geographic News is part of the National Geographic Society.)

Hogs in the wild rarely reach such gargantuan size, leading some skeptics to wonder of the monster may have been raised in captivity. DNA tests were considerable more conclusive, proving that Hogzilla was part wild boar, part domestic pig. (Read an account of the investigation.)

Independent film company Lithium Productions will hold auditions for The Legend of Hogzilla in May. Griffin, who shot Hogzilla at a hunting preserve, has been enlisted as the movie's on-set hog expert.

Okay I missed the hogzilla reference of the story. My mistake. I have many windows open at the moment working and didn't read it carefully.

One for the record books indeed.

I arrowed a feral hog that field dressed at 290 and it was huge. I cant even imagine a 800 lbs monster. seams strange to say it was ONLY 800, and not really 1000 lbs.

Gotta have chow for the zombies and 1200 pound roaches.

And what about the 250,000 Chinese troops waiting in Mexico to invade? Moshu Pork!

bikermikearchery: It is over 1000 lbs they were referencing the Hogzilla in the story one that was killed and found in 2004.

IF "Hogzilla" was "found" and was not, as NGS suggests, just a big domestic boar pig that got killed. Some domestic "lil" piggies top out over 1200 pounds gross. (Really gross!) IIRC, the record is over 1300 pounds [ ], but it weren't no wild hog.

Still a big piggy. Places I have had the opportunity to hunt when you get to around 300 you have a BIG hog. My Grandfather used to raise pigs, that were usual butchered at 250 to 300. At the county fair I saw a 800 lbs hog and that was impressive. He didn't have to be wild to make me nervous I've seen what an angry hog can do. My own Hog is around 730 lbs dry weight, Oh Wait thats a different kind of Hog, Silly me.

no doubt if it's 800 lbs or 1000 it's still one big piggy. I would hate to came across it in the woods and all I have is my 22 LR plinker since the 500 S&W had little effect on it.
