How do you survive your own body?

What I meant there was during the acute part of my virus, immodium wouldn't have had a chance to work because it would have come out one end or the other before before the 'I' was even dissolved off. I know, too much info. But I think once you are beyond the worst of it, it can be a lifesaver. For instance, we had some anti-nausea meds from a recent surgery, and once I got one of those to stay down, it helped alot.

Unless you had cholera, it would have been absorbed.

Talk about Germs & hand washing ! Where I work & this will go for moost coal mines, There are no restrooms, cleanwater, soap or anything like that underground:eek:
When you go potty:p oh well you can't wash your hands & hand sanitizer does you no good because your hands are coverd in coaldust, mud, & hydrolic oil :grumpy: You also get no lunch breaks (any kinda breaks) so you learn to eat lightly on the go:grumpy: but when you eat, you can't wash your hands so whatever is on your hands is ....well you get the pic :D :barf:
They tell me a CoalMiner is one of the toughest creatures on the planet, I've been doing it for about 3.5yrs now & I see why
I haven't had a stomach virus in about 2yrs now, I also pack pepto tabs in my pack.

I try to keep in shape..and am a pretty big advocate for fitness as an overall life enhancer ... I try to eat healthy but do enjoy food that is less than ideal for me.. but other than trying to live a healthy lifestyle, staying active and doing you best to avoid contagious illness (washing your hands..is a bigger deal than most people realize.) you just got to hope for the best and play the odds.

Being on shape may help but let me tell you that overtrainning or trainning very hard, ruins your inmunological system and you are in greater risk of getting ill. So be carefull and do not overtrain.

something to be said for exposing yourself daily to germs.
CBC Canada did a in depth news story on how Society is so obsessed with this anti-germ thing, using alcohol hand sanitizers all the time and disinfectants in the home, that the rates if VRE, MSRA etc have skyrocketed amongst middle to higher income brackets, while remaining the same amongst low income persons who dont use or have access to such products.

I have no data on this but I tend to agree. Kind of like how they used to prescribe antibiotics for every little thing and now the bugs are immune to most of them. George Carlin had a great bit about this topic.
Now, that doesn't mean I advocate swimming in the Hudson or anything. Basic hygiene is of course a must. But it seems like folks I know who are constantly scrubbing themselves are always sniffly. Sort of like how all the fattest people I know drink diet soda, LOL...

Kudos to you for doing a hard but vital job!
Your words made me think again about the traditional explanation for the crust on a Cornish Pasty
"There are hundreds of stories about the evolution of the pasty's shape, with the most popular being that the D-shape enabled tin miners to re-heat them underground as well as eat them safely. The crust (crimped edge) was used as a handle which was then discarded due to the high levels of arsenic in many of the tin mines."
Maybe the tin miners had more than poisonous metals on their hands! :D

I honest dont think I could work in a Coal Mine. Man you are one tough guy just to be doing that job. Brave too. My hats off to any coal miner. It takes a real man to do that IMO.
