How do you tell if your knife is a "weapon?"

good point Jonathon. It would be kinda stupid to tell me that you can't bring a knife to work but here, have a #15 scapel to do your job :0!

Thanks for all the input.

I have some good news- I think. First, I called the Attorney General. They bounced me around and finially referred me to the fire arms division of the HPD.

The police officer said that as long as the knife did not have a sharp top edge or was a "switch blade" it would not be a considered a weapon.

I asked him if a person was arrested and had a folder with a 5" blade, could that be considered a weapon? He said it would not be a weapon as long as the person was not threatening someone or cutting someone with it.

Based on that I'm going to ASSUME that my companies policy would follow the local law.

Take care,

Dave

You know it's a weapon when someone says
"you have the right to remain silent anything you say can be used against you in a court of Law"
"You have the right to have an attorney present during questioning, if you can't afford and attorney one will be appointed to you" etc. etc etc.

Some days it's not worth chewing through the restraints and escaping.

I did some checking, and it turns out that the Opera has a "weapons cause for immediate dismissal" policy.

If they consider a knife a weapon, they will have to hire a whole new crew.

This is just my take on things, but a weapon is a weapon if:

1. It is clearly stated in the lawbooks that it is a weapon.

2. If you think the majority of other people's opinions are that it's a weapon.

The first is easy, but the second is tricky. I've found out that automatics are actually fine legally, especially if I can obtain a written affadavit from the DA. On the other hand, I'll have hard time explaining that one even to an average police officer. So, because it does not fill the second requirement, I've decided not to have automatics in the first place.

However, manual folders seems to be just fine, no matter how they look. Well, all except the Sifu maybe.

Even the Carnivour has not been giving me any hassles from where I live. So as far as I'm concerned, it meet both requirements and does not qualify as a "weapon".

I suppose the best thing to do is to just ask, but creep it in cautiously. By the way, Dave. What is this "tactical folder" you speak of?
