How do you tell the difference between a real and fake Sebenza 25

I found a sebenza 25 for sale I was thinking about buying. It comes with the box and leather slip sheath but no papers or tools.

How can I tell if it's real or fake?.

Buy the seller, not the knife. In other words, is the deal too good to be true? Is it being sold on the exchange? Without the papers or tools, I would automatically want a lower price, if you know its real. Do you have any pictures?

No it's for sale locally. He says he bought it from a pawnshop.

Having everything but papers is a huge alarm...not saying it can't happen, but it is kind of hard to keep the box and lose the birth card - its usually an all or nothing thing. Unless you separate the box and card when you get the knife? Sounds sketchy to me....a lot of fakes come with the box and sheath but no card.

How can you tell?.

A few things:

Anodization on thumb studs--colors are off and not uniform
Idaho Made marking font looks a little off
Leather sheath says "Think Twice, Gut Once"
Blade finish isn't uniform and looks wonky
Overall, it just doesn't look or feel right.

Thank you for the help. I only saw the pics on my iPhone so it was hard to tell.

Great advice above!

Also, real 25's don't come with a slip sheath - you have to buy it seperately. However, the fake 25's I've seen on fleabay do.

Totally forgot about this, from what I know only CRK with inlays or graphics come with the sheath, and the 25s have neither (at least yet?!).

The finish on the satin part of the blade shows some fine scratches;the R logo or the idaho made logo isnt struck uniform enough.the face where the lockbar engages the locking part of the back of blade is ground with lines, not finished well. i saw one close up at a gun show a while back & got a real close look. scary thing is if you looked at this knife from a foot away, you would never know it was a fake. it is so close to the real one. i could not believe how good this copy was.there was also a zaan copy & it was just as good,if not better, untill at a certain angle i saw some weird shadows on the blade finish.i never thought id see fakes that were this good...

This happens pretty often with crk that they have just a box but no bday card. If you send your crk in for a sharpening or to have work done they will always send back in new box.

^ it looks like a ceramic ball but who knows what the material is. & if that fails or falls out, that lock is done....

Those boxes do not have the stickers on them...so you know its a replacement. A NIB CRK in a box without stickers is a red flag...unless it is a reputable seller... Refurb CRK makes sense though.

A friend of mine ordered a Sebenza 25 off ebay and he wouldn't have known it was a fake, but the box and dated card was not nearly as well faked as the knife. Here it is before he sent it back for a refund. eBay doesn't seem to realize people are going to stop dealing with them for knives and will pay a little more to dealers, that deal directly with the knife companies.

Wow, that is a good fake... Scary for people who buy knives off ebay looking to score a "deal". Not so scary for those who don't risk it and just buy from dealers or the exchange.

Box did have the stickers and it even had a warranty card, addressed right to CR. The thing that was faked badly was the date card, funny they can fake everything else and then mess up on the handwriting. And he didn't get a deal on the knife either.

A little research shows that these are coming from a Chinese website, selling for about 60 dollars shipped. I'm glad all mine came from New Graham! I have no worries what-so-ever about their authenticity.
