Don't bother with pocket sharpeners, I've tried about ten and they never get it as sharp as you want it. They're like those hand dryers, they just never get them completely dry.

What do you guys recommend for cleaning the stones on a Sharpmaker?
For a quick fix you could try a pencil eraser, I always used it for my ceramic rods on the lansky crocksticks. What do you guys recommend for cleaning the stones on a Sharpmaker?
I use Comet on a Scotch Brite pad.
Haven't tried Barkeeper's Friend. Would you say it's better than Comet?

What benchstone/diamond stone setup is that? Have not seen those before.
I agree to refine your skills on what you find is comfortable and if you still want to buy a sharpmaker. I use a lansky turnbox kit as I am away from home and needed something compact.
I don't know what the name brand is or who manufactured it. Where I work they where constructing a large building and my buddy found it in the dumpster. I sharpen knives for all my buddies including him so he gave it to me. It has a coarse/med./fine stones. The coarse one has way too much gritt for any of my uses!
