how do youguys sharpen your spydercos?

Don't bother with pocket sharpeners, I've tried about ten and they never get it as sharp as you want it. They're like those hand dryers, they just never get them completely dry.

I use Comet on a Scotch Brite pad.

Haven't tried Barkeeper's Friend. Would you say it's better than Comet?

Well I went to the outdoor store today and got the lansky sharpen system. I got the diamond rod as well and it shaves real sharp

I just reworked the bevels and sharpened a Lum Chinese today on a SharpMaker. I used 320 grit wetdry sandpaper wrapped and clipped around one rod to rework the bevels one side at a time. Then I polished it on out on the medium and fine rods. I didn't like the edge off the fines so I went back to the mediums. It shaves nicely and whittles free hanging hair. It did that new out of the box, but the factory bevels were not symetrical. Now that I reworked the bevels (with sandpaper) to the correct SharpMaker angles I can touchup the edge with just a few strokes from now on.

I almost never scratch up a blade on the SharpMaker. With the other methods I usually muck the thing up.

Sharpmaker with the extra 204D diamond rods. Those are essential kit for the standard Sharpie - any dull knife can truly be brought back to life with this set.

Actually went as far as to touch-up my brand-spanking new Lum Chinese with it - and yes, I got it even sharper than it was out of the box!

What benchstone/diamond stone setup is that? Have not seen those before.

I agree to refine your skills on what you find is comfortable and if you still want to buy a sharpmaker. I use a lansky turnbox kit as I am away from home and needed something compact.

I don't know what the name brand is or who manufactured it. Where I work they were constructing a large building and my buddy found it in the dumpster. I sharpen knives for all my buddies including him so he gave it to me. It has a coarse/med./fine stones. The coarse one has way too much gritt for any of my uses!

I just got a few different rods for my lansky system. I bought medium and fine diamond rods, as well as the ceramic ultra fine rod. It gets my paramilie scary sharp :)

Cool. If you want to see "spooky sharp", get some polishing compound and take up stropping. Your arm hair will not stand a chance! (neither will your arm if you press too hard:eek: No room for error!)
