How Do Youi Decide?

I find myself reaching a sort of "plateau"...
I've been fortunate enough to find most of the Grail Knives that I wanted, and a lot of the knives that otherwise fit some perceived need that I had rolling around in my head...
So how do you decide what to buy next: if you already have the knives that you want?
The Shirogorov NeOn, and Benchmade 781 seemed to fill in the gaps in my meager collection; so where do I go from here?

I don't find the knife, the knife finds me.

As esoteric as that may sound, I too have far more knives than I have needs for them.....so I wait until something calls to me. It's that simple - I don't overthink it. I know when something speaks to me. Sometimes it takes weeks to hear the calling, other times it can be months.

In other words, I am really not actively looking for anything anymore.

I just know what I like and can afford. Sometimes I just can't afford to let go of the money. I have a pre-ordered Carothers DEK2 coming, and I know that I also want a DEK3.
Like shane45-1911 shane45-1911 , sometimes a knife finds me. The most recent example of that would be my Kershaw Launch 1. I have always wanted a Buck General 120, so I bought one. May not ever use it for anything other than trimming my mustache, but I have one. lol

I hate buying stuff but when I feel like I could use knife for category that is not quite covered yet I might ponder for weeks or months. I think it’s a good thing; at least you wont have that ”why the heck did I buy this?” moment.

I go through stages... I recently bought my last Spyderco for a while, I just have enough of them and probably need to get rid of some. I am now in a Swiss Army Knife stage. I suppose, being newer, I am still discovering what I want in all my knives, trying different things out and seeing what works best for me. I'm liking wharncliffes, I'm liking SAKs, right now, I have been looking at SAKs for the last four days.

The great concept of this forum is to enlighten. When I think I've seen every worthwhile knife...someone presents a new one. Then the hunt begins all over again.
Do I need it..no. Do I want it ...yes.

IDK how "Youi" decides ! ;)

If I want it , can afford it , seems like a good deal ...that's good enough .

I do try to not get anything that doesn't bring something better than what I've already got , or at least different, to play with .

Theoretically , I only buy something I will actually use and carry ... but that rule gets bent .

At this point, I only have a limited # of knives that I am interested in buying which I need in order to fill in my collection and am mainly on the lookout for those.

There are also certain "overpriced" knives that I'd like to have but am unwilling to buy at current price levels but am willing to buy at the "right" price, if it is offered for less or if the seller is will to "make a deal."

And then there are those knives that I never considered before but that I find attractive and that are offered at a "good" price (discounted substantially from street pricing) that I'm may buy just on impluse as long as it's priced below my current knife purchase limit of $500 (including tax/shipping).

I’m pretty much done, but I have to keep an eye out for new knives that fit into one of my sets.

Same as many above. I am pretty much done. There is one custom I've been salivating over but am restraining myself for now. And if a Damascus Mnandi with mammoth scales finds me, well, that won't be my fault. Otherwise, I'm enjoying fondling my babies. You see, Millennials like to fidget with their stuff but we Boomers like to fondle ours.
