How does the Solution feel compared to an AD

The title says it all! Any owners of both, can you chime in?

Thank ya thank ya!

It'll be a couple of days before I can give you the numbers to compare the two but I can tell you that I was always a big fan of the AD in all flavors and the Solution is, far and away, a better fit for me.

The handle is comfy, the blade length is not too long and not too short, and it's heavy enough to do serious work while not being too heavy to EDC.

If it means anything, I emailed Eric immediately after handling my first one to place another order. :)

(I had to have one on hand while the first went out for a sheath...)

Just a couple of in-hand shots...

I couldn't imagine any small knife being more comfortable than the solution. IMO it is the perfect small knife.

They are pretty comfortable to hold, I had one that was a little longer and thicker, same kinda issues that the RMD had.. Just a little thicker here , and a little thinner there.
I liked them, good feel and good look, they also had one other thing in common, every single one was dull, couldn't cut paper, I even went so far as pushing hard on my finger to only dent it, I can imagine once ya reprofile the edge, it will be a handy little blade.

I currently have 2 solutions, I have owned an AD before, no comparison, the solution feels so much better in hand, great blade

Thanks guys! There is a lot of RS love out there!

Surprised by the sharpness issue, there was such a hubbub about sharpness from Busse Combat that they were looking at knives hard prior to shipping.

The photos make me think of one question. The Vex is a cool knife, but with the smaller handle, I found my hand tiring more from grasping it. Any of that happening for folks? Looks pretty narrow up front!

Got my solutions yesterday.

This is the most comfortable fixed blade I've ever handled.

They were however pretty damn dull...

Okay Eric, this seems to be an issue that's popping up lately. Some are saying the knives are sharp and other say they're dull. What's up over there? Keep 'em sharp in the Swamp!!!

My first Solution was plenty sharp until I stripped the coating and then the edge degraded a bit.

No worries, I cleaned it up and now it's a laser.

The new ones are here and they're not screaming as much but they'll cut right now. They'll just cut better when I'm done with them. :)

Just had to throw this pic up here too. :)

Stripped, sharpened, and USED.

I carry it in my back pocket in the MBHanzo sheath.

I have never owned a AD, but handled plenty of them. I do own a Solution and feel it is one of the best blades for the money in it size, material, and comfort. I am thinking of ordering another as a back-up, like it will be needed LOL.

THAT... is badass :D
that may be in my future as well, good job man :)
I just got mine earlier this week and it's kind of so-so sharp.
Need to get a sheath before it goes out with me anyway so I've got time...

Ok. Since we're on the topic...

For those of you who have sharpened/reprofiled your solutions, what'd you do? I can't seem to get a good edge on mine. Tried my sharpmaker and attempted my first convex. Started at 800/1500/2000.

Tips from the pros would be awesome, startin to get a little frustrated.

FYI- this is my first swamp rat.

4Truck,

I start way back at 220 to reprofile and use a light touch--maybe 20 passes a side. That ought to bring it to a nice toothy edge.

Use a Sharpie to mark the existing edge so you know that you're hitting it too.

I do 10-10 and then check the edge, 5-5 and check the edge, 5-5 again and check the edge, and then take single or double passes before checking again.

Remember, you don't have to get it super-polished and razor sharp in the first go-round. Sharpen and reshape the bevel to your liking, use it for a while, touch it up, and use it some more.

This will break up the sharpening process, give you time to determine if you like the new edge or need to adjust it, and the repeated process of "touching up" the edge will also help to continue the reprofiling process.

I work the grits up like this:

220
320
400
600
800
1200
2000
Strop

Or I may stop somewhere along the way up.

The biggest thing to remember when convexing an edge is to use a light touch. If you push down too hard you'll round over the edge you're trying to create.

Ok. I started at 800 in an attempt to maintain the factory edge. Read all the convexing posts, guess I'll get some 220 and 400 and fire it up. I am well versed in metal work, just not knives. Do you work up a burr on one side or alternate? I've seen both mentioned. I have yet to work up a burr in a few hours. I think I am too high on grit. Used a sharpie, and I am consistent all the way up the blade.
