I can definitely feel the burr at 220.
The biggest thing to remember is to go lightly. That's probably the biggest hurdle faced by the convex sharpener.
I taught my Cub Scouts how to convex their Opinels last year in about 5 minutes so the basic technique is fairly simple but there's a finesse to the process too.
In my opinion, NO sharpening should take a few hours. By that time, you've got too much invested in the edge to then go out and get it dirty.
Heck, I touched up a machete yesterday on a piece of limestone and was carving fuzz sticks in a minute or two.
