How does Tim Britton's knives compare to the similar looking Kizer's?

That is what I was saying though that yes, he was caught buying kits from knifekits and selling them as his own work and telling people he made their knife out of BG42 when it was really aus8...

It is more complicated, do a BF search on Linville Knife and Tool...

Is there a way to find out what steel a knife is made of,definitively?Im thinking that, based on what I'm reading here that my knife might have been misrepresented.

There are machines that can to the analysis but I dont think it is cheap to have them tested.

Hey it is what it is. Fugetaboutit and enjoy the knife. You bought a knife, not the maker. After 10 years you won't be able to remember the steel type and won't care :) I speak from experince. Nobody has complained about timmy's knives having poor fit, finish, design or edge retention. He's got a good eye for stag and bone covers that suck you in.

Well, I have heard that Cucchiara is doing this with the dorado midtech; supposedly its made in china & he does the tweeking or engraving on it and theres your midtech.I had one I got for 325.00 and as soon as I found this out I sold it. 325 was cheap compared to up to 700.00 depending on the grade of work done.If this is true of these makers I don't think its right. people are buying them thinking they are hand made in a shop in the U.S.I have the kizer knife that looks like the tango, its a great knife for the money.Im sure we will see more of this in the future...

Above is a post made by Goldie one page back in this thread.

Please tell me where you have read this?

First of all I want to say these remarks about me and my Mid Tech Dorado are completely false. This slander in a public forum really pisses me off. You should have done a few searches or sent me an email for the truth instead of slamming my business practices from hearsay, a complete bullsh!t move.

Yes I had parts made for me in China(NOT by Kizer) and I have never hidden this information. I clearly stated this in the first posts I made offering these for sale. These parts are NOT finished when I get them. They are far from a kit knife, you cant just get the parts and screw them together. nothing is fit or finished on these parts when I get them.Im having the parts cut out with a CNC machine and then hand building them into my working knife. There are several custom makers doing this exact same thing and calling their finished knife a full custom. I dont have a problem with they makers that do this, to each his own, I chose to call them a Mid Tech.

At one point someone in the shop I used had stolen some of my Dorado parts, these were sent to another shop to have them completed. Looks like 12-20 knives were completed and sold behind my back. These knives were not finished in the way I finish my knives. They looked good in pictures but were not right, plastic washers, crappy lock fit, off center blades and the knife did not flip very good if at all. So now I have moved on and Im not using them anymore.

Tim Britton made some huge mistakes and Kizer came out with proof of what was really going on. It looks like now he has worked out his issues though I dont know all the details it looks like he is doing the right thing.

And on another note, I have a new collab, my first for a full production version of both my Flashbang and my Dorado models being made by Kizer Cutlery! Anyone going to the SHOT show can see them in the Kizer booth, man Im excited and cant wait! Kizer has been nothing but a huge pleasure to deal with!
Thanks!
Matt

I've certainly learned a lot about the shady dealings of Tim Britton in this thread. I almost pulled the trigger on one of his slipjoints a couple of times - after reading this thread I'm extremely glad I didn't buy one of his knives.

Well, his knife is about as good as the Kizer, as they appear to be the same knife, made in the same factory, that he stuck his name on.

From doing a bit of digging, what seems to be the case is that Mr. Britton entered into an agreement with Kizer knives, which said that if he got a certain number of orders, he would be able to purchase the design. He didn't get enough orders, so the deal fell through. Meanwhile, Mr. Britton started selling them claiming they were customs, as he still does on his website. When the deal falls through, suddenly a knife design that looks a whole helluva lot like "his" Tango is going to start showing up for sale in stores, and he runs the risk of getting caught stamping his logo on (very decent) Chinese made knives and lying about calling them customs to sell them for several times the price. So, to try to get ahead of it, he accuses them of stealing what he claims is his design, and riles up a lot of people to crusade against an imagined enemy. It helps his case that he was selling their knives before they released them to the wilds of bladehq and knifecenter and the like.

Personally, after reading about this kerfuffle, and similar ones in the past where people have claimed Mr. Britton has delivered to them blades from knife kits and the like, I wouldn't purchase anything from him. It's a shame, because he's apparently a fairly talented maker. But, it seems he's taken shady shortcuts, and for me personally, I couldn't really see a scenario in which he could regain my trust as a consumer of knives and knife-related paraphernalia.

But, in the end, he never presented any actual evidence to support his claims, and Kizer did. By the way, I've been hearing great things about Kizer, and ordered their Splinter model. Should be here a few days after this hideous election is over. Looks to be a pretty knife. Looking forward to seeing it show up on my stoop.

Disclaimer: I, like other internet denizens, could be wrong on small (or large) details on this. I'm fully willing to retract my statements if contrary evidence shows up.
