How easy it is to lose a knife in the woods?

i've been in the thick stuff several times
since mts. required boning meat & carrying out in plastic bags in packs;we sometimes used more than one blade; as dusk approached we were sometimes left a blade on site.one area was middle fork of salmon river.
primitive area no horses allowed & walking out in darkness too dangerous
this was yrs. back before super lights with l.e.d.s. wish i had used orange handles but they were'nt invented yet.i do'nt climb mts. anymore but think orange or red handles great.

I've had my mora clipper slip out of it's sheath a few times. I probably should have lost it. I'll get a new sheath for it.

I never lost one in the woods....restaurants, couches, big plush chairs, cars....always found em but the sitting in a chair position seems to be a great way to have my knives fall out of my pocket if theyre not cliped properly.....I had a kid at a daycare I worked at in highschool pick one up once off a school bus seat....good thing I got to it before he could play around with it......or any of my coworkers saw it.....

I've had knives stolen, but never lost. Once in the Army and once at work.

I've lost a few around the house but they turn up sooner or later. Never lost one in the woods though. It seems to be second nature that what ever I'm carrying I always touch it to confirm that it's there.

I've lost several folders, a couple of fixed blades and whole heaping pile of flash lights including some surefires while hunting. I've also had more than a few knives stolen out of my truck. Losing a knife while hunting is very easy to do with all the four wheeler riding, climbing trees, walking forever through thick bottom land hardwood tracking deer and when your in palmettos and briars that are over yourhead and water that is knee to just shy of waist deep if something slips out of your hand or pocket your not going to find it, its just that simple.

You mean this. :D

Don't worry, I was just experimenting here finding out how effective that camouflage pattern really is in the woods. And in my opinion it is very effective.

Actually no, that's more of a splotch pattern, like this one

I have never lost a knife. However, I have found six "good" fixed blades (including one nicely decorated german pilots knife) and one folder. Four of the fixed blades were still in their sheaths. My guess is hunters put them on top of their cars and then drove off. All of these fixed blades were 5"+ blades. Two of them were "bright" colors.
My hunting budy found a winchester 70 in 300 mag leaning against a tree. From the rust and split stock, it had been there for some time. He had it rebuilt.
I have lost my way several times in the woods, so I nowcarry a compas around my neck when ever I am in the woods.

I lost the first knife i ever made. i couldn't find a compression sheath that fit just right, so I used on a little loose. I started making the sheathes and none have been lost since. although i am missing a delica somewhere in my house...

Inverted fixed blade on a PFD with a big lanyard while trailblazing for a portage = just a sheath.:o

I once had a small pocketknife fall out of my pocket while hiking back from of a fishing hole. I went back to search for it the next day and was lucky enough to find it.
