How far am I on the addiction?

I'm pretty new to carrying a knife everyday but it makes everything so easier that now I wonder how I managed to live without it before. My history is as follows:

I bought a Benchmade Mini-Nitrous Stryker in September/2009 because I decided I needed a knife. I had never used such a good knife! It was razor sharp, compact, tight, no blade play whatsoever. My world changed. I then spent the following months doing some lurking around this forum, watching videos on Youtube, trying to find out more about this thing of ours.

With time I started noticing bad things about my knife. For starters, the handle is a little too small for comfort. Also, I realized that it looked a little too aggressive, too tactical. Its assisted deployment and the black G10 on the handle made people around me look scared anytime I used it, even in mundane activities like opening an envelop in my office.

My search for a more "tamed" knife took me to the Benchmade Osborne 940, which I bought in February/2010. I like the knife, but it looks a little too delicate to handle some of my harder cutting activities.

Well, it's March and I bought a Chris Reeve Umnumzaan last week. I promised to myself it's the last knife I'll buy until any of my other ones break or anything like that. The damn thing is that I'm still watching reviews on Youtube and some other knives still catch my interest (a Strider, maybe? Or a XM-18?) and I'm beginning to convince myself I will buy just one more and then I will be done with it. It's like a disease!

I know that most forum members here buy new knives regularly, and some of you get a new one every two weeks or so. In your opinion, how far am I in the process of becoming one of you? Do I still have hopes of not becoming a compulsive knife buyer?

HELP!

If you're already buying Chris Reeves and thinking about Striders, you're pretty far along. Have you ever looked at custom knives? ;)

Once you're in, its hard to get out. I'm having four knives overnighted to me as I'm off work the next three days and can't stand the thought of not using this time to play with new steel!

Aaargh, another way to spend my money! First phones, then watches, now knives?? At least I'm honored to be in company of such nice people. Thanks for all the input, guys.

haha at least you can pride your self that you are buying quality blades:D:D CRK, Strider...these are steps in the right direction:D:D

going from a production knife to a custom that quick would be like starting out with some weed one weekend, and then trying opium or crack cocain the next week. thats is the type of jump you have made inmop.

That is what you call a quantum leap "I am all in" style of knife acquiring.

I didn't know the Umnumzaan was a custom knife. Is it?

You call that a problem...... come back to us when you have real issues ;)

nice knives btw

At least you are going right for the more expensive grail models early on in your collecting years.

I spent lotsa $$$$$$$ and many years buying BM, Spyderco and others trying to convince myself that a $100 knife would be the same as a $300 knife.

Now I'm buying $300 knives.

Boy the money I could have saved if I went right for them in the beginning - I probably could have retired by now.

All I can say is that I am darn glad spring is around the corner so I can focus on my yard and outdoor projects! I started out wanting one new EDC and picked up a mini-grip. Then it was a Delica, Para D2, Military, Sage... I cannot start doing this again.

Every time I say "this is the last one, I've got more than I could ever want, need, or afford," I find myself at a shop, on the phone or the PC like a crackhead - going through the motions of getting my fix.

Ain't it great! :D

Consider yourself lucky. Knives are relatively less costly than guns sir. :D

Another thing... if/when you get to gun buying, there is a forum for about every interest - ie. 1911's, Glocks, AR15's, etc.
