Since I started carrying a REKAT Carnivour and a lg. BM 710 in my glove box, I always have my EDC's nearby.
If I need a fixed blade while away from home(and forgot to pack at least one), I keep one of my old 9" bladed, differentially tempered file knife Bowies(in a kydex sheath) and a smaller 5" bladed file knife (old style Tanto also in kydex sheath) in my car's trunk.
Be prepared!
