How far have you travelled just for a knife?

It occurred to me on the way back from Bluefield VA to Charlotte NC that I was driving about 350 miles (round trip) with the sole purpose of purchasing a knife.

Next time you're in the Raleigh/Durham/Cary area, check out Beck's Cutlery (www.beckscutlery.com). It should save you some round-trip mileage ;)

That being said, the farthest I've ever traveled and bought a knife would be 2 hours/ 120 miles (visiting home over Christmas) from Wilmington to Raleigh. I did specifically plan on shopping for a serrated blade while I was there.

The farthest I've ever been specifically for a knife is 1 hour/60-70 miles up the road to Jacksonville to get an Emerson SOFCK from Extreme Outfitters.

A few years back I flew from Philadelphia to San Francisco to pick up a NICA Limited Tanto Sebenza:eek: To justify this outrageous behavior I scheduled a meeting with a client in the Bay area. But my primary purpose in going to S.F. was to buy the knife. The business meeting also covered all of my travel expenses:D

Gotta love expense reports!!

I drove from Holland to Denmark to pick up my Jens Anso; about 550 miles one way. It's been fun and I'm probably going to do it again this year.

Beck's is a great store. I used to go there all of the time when I worked in RTP, but the drive on I77 through the country to Bluefield is MUCH easier than going I85/I40.

The good people at Beck's turned me on to Messermeister's Meridian Elite chef's knives and I am forever thankful for that.

I bought knives in Tokyo and the south of france, but Tokyo was a business trip and france a vacation.
My longest <only knife-related> drive will be next month to the IWA show in Germany.
