Ok, here is a good one for you.

1. How many hours in a week would you say that you are within a 2 minute reach of your FIXED Blade knife (like the knife is in your car outside or in your house or in a tent 20 feet away, etc, but all easily accessible if needed)?

2. Out of all your knives which one would you say is takes up the majority of the above hours.

Lets say 7 days at 24 hours = 168 hours total

So I will start it with this:

1. At night there is about 5 or 6 knives within my reach. During the week days I have two fixed blades within 2 minute reach nearly all day. On the weekends I always have 1 within reach during the day, with the exception of workouts like long runs or bike rides where I do not take a fixed blade. So at most I am without one 5 hours a week. So 97% of the time I have at least one near me.

2. The Fixed blade that I have within reach most of the above time is my CG FBM, but there is usually another BM or a DF near me as well.

Heavy Duty, or Active Duty, or Meaner Street on my belt every day. :D

I'm in a sort of a unique position as I am surrounded by Busse's in my shop all day. :) Today its an FFFBM, FBM, Hell Razor, FSH, and a couple more I cant remember right off hand.

At night my belt Busse sits on the night stand.

So, I guess I've got a Busse around me 24/7!

This is hard to calculate so I will take averages here.
Fixed blades between 95 to 98% of the time it or they are on me or under the pillow at night. I rotate between 3 different fixed blades depending on my attire.
Folders 60% of the time. These are on me during my waking hours, at night they are within reach on the belt of my pants next to the bed.

I have a Leatherman and Superknife in my pocket at any time I have pockets on. My ST Ripper is at my bedside at night and in my truck while @ work. When I can find/afford a SMOG w/ teeth, it will be my pocket carry. My BATACLE will probably rotate as my EDC. I pretty much have a blade available at all times.

I have an GW, HD or LrMrS either on my belt or close at hand everyday. I have a larger fixed blade SJ, SH or BM either in the car/truck, in my bag or in the saddle bag of the bike.

I also usually have 7x .380 or 8x .22 to get me back to the 13+1 9mm ;)

I like to keep my tools close by.

Going shooting with my son in a bit, uniform today, blk/blk HD (BB sheath) on my belt, CGFBM in Okuden kydex in the saddle bag, and for today only ;), Colt 1991-A1, Walthers PPK/S, Beretta Model 21, and a Star Firestar Plus.

We gonna make a little noise.

I sleep 3 strides from my AK, and arms reach from my remington 870.

Lately, I EDC on my person, every day either a Dmutt or a CS Scemitar (from wake to sleep)

Once i move out of CA (in 2 days), then EDC a fixed blade is less of an issue, then i hope my Meaner in Rainwalker sheath will be with me daily..

Good question!

Maybe 70-80+% Does sleeping with a Busse under the spare pillow count? :o (D/C triple ground SH-V fighter in a Rowe sheath. ) I like the FBM CG for the vehicle, the FBM LE for just "playing" with (Now that I have smoothed the high points on the handle some, I can't stop handling & using that knife!) and the SH-V is always nearby at home... #27 HOGFSH is also usually nearby, but it is out getting a new edge by one of Busse's finest. :D  Many more are stashed thoughout the house. LOL ...User AK on top of the kitchen cabinets.. LeatherHOG sheathed FSH variant in the utensiles drawer... LMAO My neighbors probably think I'm completely nutz. :foot:  :D

...Not to mention all the little knives that are around me, LOL... I really NEED to thin the herd, it's a good thing these only eat when & what ya feed them! ...But they do take up a bit of space. About 6 are on the table next to me right now... AD's & Meaners, and the last offered Wardens. :)

EDITED to ADD: 0h yeah, almost forgot... :o ... The black Skelly Warden necker I usually wear... LOL ... I'd say that's nearby, heh-heh! :)

I have fixed blades on every level of the house, just because that's where I keep them in boxes or in my desk. They're always readily accessible.

My Ratweiler and SAR Rat are always in my truck, and usually one or two Busses that I pick up to take along for the ride.

At work, I EDC a SS4 in INFI and a Skeleton Key. When not at work but away from the house, it's a Skeleton Warden in the pocket.

Fixed blades all the time! :D

Like alot of you I have fixed blades around me pretty much all day, keep the AD on my belt at work with a folder in my pocket. Then at home I have one pretty much in every room, and my FBM and SFNO under my bed along with my Scrapyards and HI's and RTAK's. Then I have a GW in a few of the drawers. I am within arms reach of my AR15, 870, 1187, .40, .45 ACP and LC, .44 and 9mm when I am in my room. and within arms reach of some sort of firearm in my house probably most of the time. In my car I keep a ka-bar and a Ratchet and a GB forest axe, my truck carries two axes and one old EK. My motorcycle has a g/w in the seat. I am covered alot of the time. Most of the guns and knives however are in safes and put away for safetys sake.

I usually have a small fixed blade on me nights and weekends. I carry a flat ground Dozier Personal a lot and rotate some with a GW. Dozier's horizontal kydex sheaths are perfect for easy carry. I would definately carry the GW more with a good horizontal sheath. I've been thinking about sending it to the Dozier shop for one.

When I'm a work I usually move the fixed blade to my backpack which is always with me and carry a Delica or SAK. I just got a small Sebenza that's getting a lot of carry right now too.

I've got a Camp Tramp in the car. I just sold my SJTAC that usually stays by the bed a night so I'm looking for a new "bedtime" Busse. An SS4 or a HRLM are filling that role right now.

Altogether I'd say I'm 95% covered for any fixed blade need.

I'm with you on that JJ. There's a MRs or a Badger (now LE!!) on my belt all day, every day (AWA a Spyderco Lil'Temp RFP and a keychain Spyderco Goddard on my keys  ). There's another Badger (CG) on the bookshelf and one in my nightstand next to the Mini EU17 and a FMBLE in the garage. That might be MORE than 7x24 depending how you're counting:D

Also, JJ, if you want some noise, you need to try a S&W 500 .50 cal revolver... Mine's the loundest thing I've ever heard (barring a few military jets:D )

Have fun!

An Ed Brown Custom is within seconds all day and under a minute at work..
Inside that bag is a Mayo..
At night there is a S & W within arms reach and although I don't have them there as back ups, there is the Chuckette', a Ruck, 3 or 4 FBM's, more Mayo's , Carson, GW's and other junk in, on, or around the dressers.

If I'm going to get down, I prefer a .45 or a .454 maybe a .475 if I'm slumming....

I lose 40 hours off the top. My career is extremely knife-unfriendly. Cannot even have one in the car while I'm in my office!

But...
1. I have 5 knives in easy reach at night...mostly folders. Always have one EDC around during the day; either a simple folder (Spyderco, Kershaw, BM) or one of my beloved Busses (GW, AD, LrMrS). There is almost always a larger Busse 'around' me during the day, as well (FBM, FFBM, old style Satin Jack, SFNO, HellRazor, SH). It's just a guess, but I'm probably two minutes from a fixed blade Busse about 100 hours a week.

2. Hard question. Probably a tie these days between an FFBM, and LE FBM, and an SFNO on the large side...and an AD on the small side. And there are usually a few more large, fixed blade Busses around.

Best I can do right now!

Oh...and the Badgers are gone from the Company Store. :D

I usually try and sleep next to a Blonde:thumbup:

OH and a Rem 870.... just the sound of the 870's action:eek: should scare anyone out of the house.

Unless I'm at a work location that I had to fly to I always have a small fixed blade in my brief case, bag or pack. Usually it is a Busse GW, AD or MS. For a long time it was a Dozier or a Bark River. I also have a CR Mnandi in my shirt pocket.

The on that get used most? .... Can't say really, but I think that because when I go camp I have just one knife with me for the full 24 hours of the day that would give the Badger III the edge on there.

Same for my Ithica 12 ga  That's one company I was VERY sorry to see go under... They are sorely missed (by me at least :( )

I keep my SJTac in my Kifaru X-Ray with me at all times but its not super sharp. Its only use is bushcraft.
