When I saw the cartoon, I remembered some people mentioning that there are areas where cellphone communications are impossible. Not necessarily a bad idea.

Hell, I just turn my cellphone off when I need to get "away" like that. Nice comic though. Thanks.

Having no cell reception is a requirement for where I go to, for my outings. Most times, I don't take any electronics with me, and amazingly, I survive. I constantly amazed at the "hum" of electronics, and when you hit that spot in the woods, you know what I mean, and there is nothing, but birds and bugs makin noise. Ahhhhhhhh! Perfection. Good post, love the cartoon.

when me and Hollowdweller went hiking, we seen all these people at one hilltop yaking on there cellphones.....my personal thoughts were that they shouldn't have been there in that beautiful place worried about who's calling them....jmo....

Not far at all. I don't accept incoming calls on my cell phone except during working hours (I'm a service technician on the road) or when I'm expecting to meet up with somebody, so cell phones are no bother.

As far as the other urban trappings, I have no problem with them. Besides Mannlicher's observation (liquor store proximity), I like a lot of the urban amenities - hospitals, hot showers, waterbed (I could go on and on).

Also, I don't answer my home phone during telemarketer hours, so, once again, no bother.

At one time, I fantasized about 'getting away from it all', but no longer. For the most part, I like where I am.

You're my hero Doc:D I'm the same way...I do enjoy getting away at times, but where I currently live...it's rural bliss but I can still get to work in less than 30 minutes and most of the "big city" amenities are less than 30 minutes away. Both my personal cell and work Blackberry are always on silent; I'm not in a position of great importance right, so if you want me, leave a message...if you don't and I don't recognize you're number it gets deleted at my leisure :D

That may change in the future if I get a command, but for now, I'm enjoying anonymity and just driving home is getting away from it all:thumbup:

all i have to do is drive ~30km in any direction, except directly east, and i'll be out of mobile service coverage.

I turn my phone off or leave it at home alot. I don't know how my coworkers who use Blackberries can live the way they do, constantly "in touch" and working almost 24/7. The background noise of electronics and constant activity can be very......Unsettling.

Esav?

What's a cell-phone?

:)
(carry your own shackles, you do.)
Happy Holidaze.
