How fast can a gimp...build a backpacking wood stove?

LOL!!! But that thread did have new info for me...I started reading it before I built my stove! Lots of really good info and ideas in there. That's a funny forum...flip flops between some fairly serious survivalists and some pretty geeky kids...but there are some real gems that come out of there. There's probably half a dozen guys there that really know what they're doing, and another couple dozen that are solid but maybe just a little inexperienced, and then a whole pile of kids that don't really have a clue (not that I had a clue when I was a kid - I was a real idiot.)

Their First Aid subforum has some really good information, I find. And one thing that is cool is that since a lot of the membership is pretty young, they are often broke and doing things on the cheap, so some really good DIY stuff comes out of there.

Mabey when they pull all of that hardware out of your ankle you could use it to make an ankle stove:) Nice job really though. Keeping busy keeps the spirits up, even if injured.

LOL!!!

You know what? I went to the surgeon yesterday and they told me I could start trying to walk on the thing.

And today it's a beautiful sunny warm day, and I am going to try to walk to the beach with the beautiful assistant!

Mis' you be careful with that thing in enclosed spaces. All the smoke signals i see coming from it spell CARBON MONOXIDE POISIONING! One of the stealthiest killers in all of the Bush. I'd worry more about CO2 in a shelter; than the shelter igniting from the heat (as one poster implied). Never fall asleep inside of a shelter with anything burning, not even a candle!

I think the upside down mailbox would be:
A) too thin in thickness to take much heat before it burned through
B) The door would then open up, hard to put in wood fuel
C) Way too bulky to carry

Check out my friend Josh at www.tigoat.com his stoves roll up! And are the slickest thing since sliced bread! I should get him to join over here, him and his Dad are great outdoorsmen.

How's the assistant doing these days? I mean, does she still have to wear that heavy coat? GRIN!
