How fast does your "high" wear off...?

Like others have said, it varies. Just got my first Spyderco yesterday, a Manix 2. Debating sellin it cause its moonglow so no play time yet. The longer it sits in the box the more I want to keep it.

It usually lasts for quite some time and I just rotate through.

Hell, my wife makes fun of me for it. She says any time the UPS man shows up I revert back to being 10 again...

I picked one of those up, and was hesitant about using it, but I have carried it a few times and the more I carry it the more I like it. There's just something about looking down and seeing your pocket glowing. I still haven't actually cut anything with it though.

depends on how successfully avoid this site. It will constantly be telling you that there is something better out there. If you can successfully avoid Bladeforums, and all the threads about buying and trading and what not, then it can probably last quite a long time

I know I have an addiction because I start the hunt for the next one within days.

The high usually lasts 24 hours or less, but despite that, I try to control my buying habit by going though my existing knives and playing with them periodically. It helps.

LOL, I know the feeling. I was on that high all day at work today, expecting to see two packages (two customs I purchased) when I got home from work... actually left work a little early. I get home and nothing ! So I'll probably have a few drinks tonight and do some drunken knife buying later tonight.
But the high usually lasts until I edc it for a while , maybe a month or so.

About a week here too.

After a month you start to see patterns in rotation which determine whether or not you really like a knife.

This thread is hilarious....but true indeed:)

I'm hoping the Sebenza i ordered from CRK will help keep my purchases to "0" in the near future.

I only buy duplicates of what I already own. It's hard to get all excited about the arrival of a spare for a model you've carried for over a decade. I wish I wasn't addicted to spares, but whether knives or guns, I have multiples of the same model.

I thought that too, until I starting looking too much at a Snakewood Mnandi. Now I am trying to calculate how to come up with the $'s. I'm thinking of parental blocking my own computer with all words associated with "Chris Reeve", and "Mnandi".

It lasts about as long as it takes to find that one little thing, that another blade might do just a little better. If I find the perfect knife, maybe I'll be done. But I doubt it.

How fast does your "high" wear off...?
...

As others have said, it depends.
If it turns out to be something I really like, I may maintain the "high" for several weeks, returning to the item repeatedly.
If something was wrong with the order (too frequent these days) it sort of ruins my buzz until I hassle a resolution. That usually lessens my enthusiasm for a few days, but I just let it pass and eventually something else catches my eye.

This. Funnily enough, that all applies to drinking too. :D

Welllll...if your high is lasting for months, there could be a problem. :D

But I don't buy for the high--I buy because I am looking for the one (or two or three... :p)

Have you found it yet? ;)
And if you do, what do you think the odds are that your reaction will be something like:
Yeah!, that was what I was looking for...it is THE ONE!! Hmmm..I wonder if there might be a better ONE?

I've been better about it since getting a little more into higher end knives and customs. Saving up for knives I really want has affected my "gotta have it now" feelings for many other knives. But I do tend to stay away from the forums a little more and the for sale forums especially to help.

I still get a serious high every night when I flip my XM-18! It just keeps getting me mor and more high on it as I shift the blade in the light and reflect the light along te mirrored edges. :D

One of my knives, the Condor Rodan is a serious buzz-kill though. I keep that one in my beater work car's glove box just in case I need something I can use and not worry about trashing. I could have got a lot more mileage out of $27 worth of Charmin toilet paper.
