Seems all the F/G Manix are about gone. (the ones that were available to buy) I haven't found any online store selling any and eBay only has 1 at a high buy it now price.(much higher than just a month or so ago!) Spyderco is the only production company where knives availability(and street price) changes so rapidly.

Spydies are typically one of the first brands to either go up, or down in price for the collectors, depending on the economy, and other variables. The rule is

1) when I have money, so does everybody else. Prices on models I want go up, and also become the "knife of the month", with bidding wars, snipers come out to play, etc.

2) When I need to sell a few knives everybody else is broke, demand is down, and the knives I want to sell were hot last month, but not now.

That's just how it goes. In the long run, over decades, if you don't lose money, you're doing ok.

If you gain money in the long run. You are lucky and smart. Should consider doing this for a living. Of course that would take all the fun out of it.

Face it, If you owned New Graham, would you get as excited about the ZDP Lum? Joe

It really is a good thing that I enjoy my Spydies. I don't seem to be lucky enough to consistently turn a profit. The feel of the knife in my hand, the look of its lines, the power of the tool as it does its job, these all have a value to me.

I guess I turn a profit even if I don't have more money than I started out with.

If you don't enjoy them why buy them in the first place?

Never forget that and you'll do fine. :)

A general rule of thumb is when you have to budget your knife purchasing (and most of us do) is when you are stuck trying to decide which to get, if one is a sprint or in some otherway limited (like discontinued) buy that one first. Other than that, when searching online and you find an unheard of online dealer who claims to have the blade you need, I advise to contact them first to verify they actually have it. The better known/trusted dealers you can count on their web info the vast majority of the time, but the no names it pays to verify. (also search the good bad and ugly section to see if anyone has gotten ripped off from the nonameknife company. com.)

My friends shop is like a Spyderco gold mine

Iv found quite a few discontinued Spidies in the stock room, its one reason I have so many Spydercos.

I just cant stop buying them :o
